An aggressive lug sole offsets crisp wingtip details in this modern combat boot. John and his longtime friend and ex-partner, Peter Fox, go waaaaay back. Before they founded Fox & Fluevog in 1970, they worked at Sheppard's, a venerable Vancouver shoe emporium, albeit a tad on the conventional side. As you can imagine, John and Peter felt a wee bit constrained, selling brogues all day to businessmen in suits and servicing only the occasional hipster. Then one day the miraculous happened, and it was followed by the inevitable: an old warehouse full of turn-of-the-century footwear (men's & women's, in mint condition, no less) became available at a ridiculously low price. In a nanosecond, John and Peter were out the door and into their own store, fully stocked with brand new fifty-year-old shoes that, in 1969, were right in style. Fox & Fluevog immediately became the very coolest place to treat the feet, and has remained so ever since. Around 1980, Peter heard the siren song of New York City and moved there to open his own store, specializing in design of ladies' (particularly wedding) shoes. John took over the business and built it into the multinational mega corporation it is today, along the way forging his undaunted reputation for the world's most distinctive shoes. Review: Just! Fluevog! - John Fluevog men's Gideon combat boots have gone from my wish list, to my feet! I've not had them long, but they are my second pair of Fluevog boots, and the quality and craftsmanship continues. The fit is good, and like the other pair I own, when these warm up, they seem to mold to your feet. These boots are said to be a smooth leather, and they are, but not a slick leather, but more like a good leather bag. Smell them! Feel them! You know it is leather. The other thing I like is the Fluebog line are made of all natural materials. They will return to the good earth they were created from, and that is tops to me. Pricey, if you don't catch a sale, but worth every penny. The Gideon will require some break in miles, but that time will be spend loving them, and when it is over your feet will feel as if you are wearing sneakers. Um, that sole color! I have the Black/Camoflage, and I'll say it is interesting. Interesting will get you the pleasure, or the worry, you won't see your boots on anyone else's feet, unless he, or she is wearing Gideon's too. Yep, you and your girl could have matching shoes. True love. The boots of course!
