GRATEFUL DEAD – A TOUCH OF GREY 6 CD SET* Presented in this anthology are three great shows which were broadcast live during the golden period from 1987 to 1989. At this point in their career, the Dead had only just released the ‘In The Dark’ album and were eager to celebrate the record which marked such a spectacular return to form. Discs 1 & 2 feature the Grateful Dead in concert from Oakland Stadium, Oakland, CA on 24th July 1987. This concert features two tracks from the ‘In The Dark’ album in the form of ‘When Push Comes To Shove’ and ‘Hell in a Bucket’. Discs 3 & 4 feature the live broadcast from The Centrum, Worcester MA on 9th April 1988. This concert also features two tracks from the ‘In The Dark’ album in the form of a further performance of ‘When Push Comes To Shove’ and ‘Throwing Stones’. Discs 5 & 6 feature the live to air broadcast by the Grateful Dead from the Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, CA on 21st June 1989. A masterful performance of ‘Touch of Grey’ is the featured track from ‘In The Dark’. * Please see images for detailed track listings. Review: Fabulous live sets from the late 80's Dead - I think these are FM broadcasts. For what are essentially bootlegs the sound is stunning. The sets are really good, the band were "on" in these shows. I have a lot of live Dead and i usually find the singing can be weak, especially on the first song whilst they warm their tubes. I think addition of Brent Mydland helps here as his voice, whilst not my favourite is pretty strong. Still you don't expect CSN harmonies when listening to the Dead, do you? A standout track is Playing in the Band on disc 2, which is epic and of course, being late 80s it doesn't have Donna's banshee wail. :-) I would recommend this for all Dead fans, at the price, it's a steal Review: Its the Dead! - I'm not sure there is such a thing as a bad Grateful Dead album. The usual high standard of performance and production for a live album
