Picture Dictionary in English
I teach English as a Second Language and the dictionary is set up with good clear pictures set around a larger picture of a zoo, classroom, the four seasons, etc. Each picture is an excellent lesson plan. I can use the picture only for more advanced students to get them to remember and write down words; the full page of single words with a matching picture can be used on the less experienced English speakers. The picture can then be used as a prompt for conversation, invention and description from their own experiences. Truly fun and easy to use; the training center I work with liked my copy so much they promptly bought their own.

This has been a super useful dictionary for my emerging readers and spellers (native English speaking children). One of my kids' favorite things is to use this book with the Scribblenauts app. I think it's a great tool to foster independent, self-directed learning. It empowers even a young child to be able to find the answer on his/her own. I like how the words are grouped in context next to the picture. Picture dictionaries that put the words in alphabetical order are not super useful to people just learning to read and/or spell. In this dictionary the child can flip through the book, look at the pictures to find the correct context, and then skim the photo/word list for the word he is trying to write.

The concept is very good, but the illustrations are too busy and spread out to really make this work, the drawings should be more like line drawings to make them less busy, and then the scene should have the exact same line drawing at the same scale. The book could also be updated to a more modern world. But then again a tremendous amount of work went into the drawings, so I'm not sure an illustrator today could do this much work. Out there somewhere is a simpler dictionary that uses this concept, since it is one that really works.

perfect book for language learners
this book has beautiful pictures with lots of everyday words. the book is divided into sections of common situations like at the store, at the doctor's office, etc. I think it is very helpful for English learners. you can also be creative and use it to teach a different language if you are bilingual. you can write the other language under English words and use the book as teaching aid. that is what I did to teach my son Russian. I could not find a good Russian picture dictionary, so I made my own out of this book!

Drawings a little outdated but worth it!
Although some of the drawings are a little outdated, this was an excellent form of teaching my 2y/o on so many words from a variety of topics from animals and food to actions and moods. He loves this book and knows so many words now with the help of this book! You won't regret buying it!

Awesome for non native english speakers
English is my second language so I wanted to improve my vocabulary but regular dictionaries / thesaurus are boring. I started with the latest and read them only once or twice. This book is totally different. It's fun to read and you end up taking full advantage of your investment which by the way is so low. I know the target objective are kids but for me it worked great. Awesome!

I am using this book with the Muslim women I tutor in English. I have found it to be very helpful. It is often difficult to explain things in words when there is a language barrier but pictures are universal.

The book is great! But would prefer it im soft cover
Would prefer a soft cover. The image where pages connect is not always visble. I had such a book with soft cover and it was not so solid but the image was fully visible. The book is great!!!

Useful
I bought this for a group of overseas students with early acquisition of English. It is a reasonably good dictionary starting point.
