A love story for Christmas—now a Hallmark Channel original movie—from the #1 bestselling author of The Christmas Box and The Walk. Elise Dutton dreads the arrival of another holiday season. Three years earlier, her husband cheated on her with her best friend, resulting in a bitter divorce that left her alone, broken, and distrustful. Then, one November day, a stranger approaches Elise in the mall food court. Though she recognizes the man from her building, Elise has never formally met him. Tired of spending the holidays alone, the man offers her a proposition. For the next eight weeks—until the evening of December 24—he suggests that they pretend to be a couple. He draws up a contract with four rules: 1. No deep, probing personal questions 2. No drama 3. No telling anyone the truth about the relationship 4. The contract is void on Christmas Day The lonely Elise surprises herself by agreeing to the idea. As the charade progresses, the safety of her fake relationship begins to mend her badly broken heart. But just as she begins to find joy again, her long-held secret threatens to unravel the emerging relationship. But she might not be the only one with secrets. Review: Wonderful read! - This was a wonderful Christmas tale about a fake relationship based on a contract that Elise and Nickolas sign. It’s to help get them both through the holiday season and all the parties, etc. But what is supposed to end on Christmas Day may end up lasting much longer. Only thing is that Elise has a secret which makes her feel she can’t have any more relationships. This was a story filled with possibilities, second chances and love. Now I need to read the other books in this series. Review: Powerful, Creative, Brilliant-Highest Recommendation - I love everything about this book. The way he so powerfully and at the same time gradually develops the characters, the beauty of love and redemption is profoundly unfolded. I love the surprises, the depth of emotion. The story is amazingly creative and captivating. it is also not R-Rated which is very refreshing to see such depth and emotion and love expressed in such beautiful ways. I will read all his books. This is my second and they are both two of my favorite books. You won’t be disappointed—it really delivers!

To find hope, look up.
I've been giving a Richard Paul Evans book to my daughter-in-law who lives in Utah every Christmas for nearly 15 years. Until this year, I'd never read one. When buying her gift this year I accidentally purchased a Kindle version. Upon realizing my mistake, I downloaded that version to my iPad and then ordered the printed copy for her. That's why I read The Mistletoe Promise this year. The storyline moved quickly and Evans' style is engaging. I enjoyed the book and found myself high-lighting key thoughts along the way. It was as if the author was speaking to me. One of those phrases was about hope when Nicholas (the leading male character) wrote... "My dear Elise, It’s been said that the Magi, wise men, gazed up into the night skies, following a star. But they were not looking for a star. They were looking for hope. Hope of a new world. Hope of redemption. Light is not found in dark places, and hope is not found looking down or looking back. May you always look up". This passage struck me, in part, because without hope it's easy to let optimism and opportunity slide by. And, in part, because for all those Christmases I've also sent a crystal star to my son's family to add to their tree. Maybe it's become the family tree of hope. Merry Christmas!

Christmas in July
I have watched and enjoyed the Hallmark movie, The Mistletoe Promise, it’s one of my favorites, more adult, addressing infidelity and divorce. I decided it was time to read the book it was based on. The books characters are fulling developed, and it has a deep sadness that would never be written into the movie. The book is Elise’s diary and is written from her perspective. Nick the attorney who suggests a Christmas Contract to spend 2 months before Christmas together is written as a truly generous, caring, and real. I read the book in a few hours as it flows easy and you watch the main characters enjoy different holiday events. Reading it in July was a great idea, it’s not your typical holiday romance. I was filled with emotions, heartbreak, sadness, hope, joy, and love. If you are looking for a light read pass on this until you are ready for a Christmas story full of life, heartbreak, despair, forgiveness, hope, second chances and love!
