Here's what the television critic of London's Daily Express said of this surreal comedy series: "Utterly charming, exquisitely acted and directedthe nearest thing...to perfect." So much for British restraint! The story that inspired this rave highlights the misadventures of one Jasper Pye, who trades his tedious desk-bound job for an obscure research project in remote Arcady Village. There he finds all the intrigue, sparkle, and romance missing from his former life. The message? Travel off the beaten path onto a branch line. 3 hours 20 min. on 2 DVDs.

'You can never tell with Lionel's girls'
I love this production. I recall seeing it in 1995 on TV during my final year of high school, but I only saw the final episode. Years later (about 1998), a relative of mine told me about it, and she reminded me of its name. That same year it was on TV again and I got to see it all. I was so very happy to find this on DVD - all my friends love this production as well, and I also have the novel. Brilliant stuffIt is quintessentially English - The borders of Norfolk and Suffolk in a sleepy village called Arcady, a civil servant with the wonderful name of Jasper Pye comes from London to Arcady Hall, a Tudor style Estate (Oxburgh Hall, Norfolk) and learns to enjoy his 'boring' life a little more by flirting with the 3 daughters of Lord Flamborough (Leslie Philips). Watch as Jasper attempts to be tactful when he is forced to close down the Government statistical unit at the Hall, while trying not to hurt his new friends. Romance and lust is not lacking in this fantastic English story set in the late 1950s.

Charming Entertainment
Love On A Branch Line is perfect for those who enjoy stories about English eccentrics like P.G Wodehouse wrote about. The cast is very good, and the locations include an incredible garden andmanor house. A great gift for the Masterpiece Theater fan.

Fun, light and British
Classic dry British humor -- or should I spell it humour? Also a refreshing and definitely British take on sex.

Love on Branch Line
One of the gentle but great British comedies. Great casting of theater trained actors who make this a really enjoyable & hilarious romp. Extremely watchable time & time again.

Three Stars
A little slow, but cute and very British.

Go back in time
Good to revisit a quiet drama from the 1990's

Out on a Limb
A comedy is supposed to make you laugh, isn't it? Love On A Branch Line simply isn't funny. The characters are witless and the situations unbelieveable. Beware buyers of the feminine persuasion ... every woman in this film is dimwitted and man crazy ... you'll have to resist the urge to hunt down the writer and slap him silly. I'm a guy and I was offended on behalf of my female friends. If you like slight, sexist, farcical humour, you might like this. If not, try any of a thousand other Britcoms.

A great film. 2 DVD’s.
The outside area of this film was taken at Oxbrough Hall National Trust property. Although it’s changed a lot since it was filmed in the 1990’s it was lovely to see it as it was. Then. And a fun film too. Highly recommend it.
