Not for standard fireplaces
So I was excited about this product but it seems as though it was meant more for stove pipes, 6-10” then a regular fire place. When you receive the bristles are bent back and the “memory” in the nylon bristles pretty much prevents you from straightening them out so it will make contact with the walls of the chimney. You may think centripetal force would extend them but this is not the case. Also, the rods will take a beating if they come into contact with any surface while spinning, which, unless you have a completely vertical chimney, (most are not) then you will have deep scratches and cut marks as they simply wear themselves out and disintegrated after just one cleaning. In addition the instructions contain no warnings on different flu systems so be careful! My chimney apparently had a steel cable running through the chimney to the spring loaded cap on the roof which was caught by the sweep and ripped the cable out, broke the flu lever and damaged the cap. This I will admit is mostly my fault for not looking first but I am an amature and that’s who this product is marketed to. Bottom line is if you have a wood burning stove with a small pipe diameter this will probably work pretty good. With a 80 year old square 16” chimney or one with a cable attached to the vent cap you are in for failure and possibly hundreds of dollars in damage. All said and done 2 stars as the description is vague and I believe that many people will not be satisfied despite the good reviews the product seems to have. Also, this thing needs way more power then a cordless drill to be effective. If you use what they suggest there is a darn good chance you will burn out or break your drill. Again, I have a 22’ foot chimney and I used a 120 volt heavy duty Milwaukee drill and this barely seemed effective. Just think about the application before you buy. I hope this helps some of you.

Great product
Cleaned my chimney with little mess.FOR SIZING TO YOUR CHIMNEY: If you have a round chimney or chimney pipe, measure the inside diameter of the pipe (or just look it up online if it’s a stove or insert). Then, cut the brush so that each bristle is half of the pipe diameter plus 1/8” to ¼”.For example, if your stove pipe is 8” then half (the radius) is 4”. So 4”+¼”=4 ¼”. From the center of the spindle cut each bristle to 4 ¼”. Since the spindle is two or three inches in diameter, the bristles will only stick out about 1 1/8” to 2 ¼”.The brush is able to handle a 24” pipe, so the bristles are very long out of the box.For non round chimneys, I’d consider using the length of longest side as the diameter in the above calculation.

The jury is still out
I have only used this product once. I cut the rope/strings about 1” longer than the opening on my 6” stove pipe. I had not used the stove much this season so there was not a lot of build up in the pipe. I think it did a pretty good job, but I am concerned that maybe I should have left the strings longer, because the seemed to stay partially down like an umbrella half way open and I couldn’t see if the head “opened” completely when the drill was spinning the rods. I suppose time will tell when I have used it a few more times. Charlie

Worth it
I like how easy this thing is to use. It took me 10 minutes to sweep my 28' chimney. I was skeptical that it would remove the fairly heavy buildup I had. I hooked it up to a 110v corded drill. The thing might as well have been a weed whacker running through my chimney. Definitely worth the money. If you have any sharp angles I would recommend running the rods through a section of PEX tubing to prevent any significant damage to the rods.

No more chimney sweeps on my 12 x 12 pitch roof!
I am so pleased with this cleaner. Instead of using plastic to cover the door of my wood stove, i used double layer loth. The change was phenomenal with the amount of dust. My chimney is clean and free flowing. I love it! I am a 73 year old woman and have a 26 foot long chimney. This is easy to use, efficient and thorough.

Does what it is supposed to do...
I received the product in a timely manner, and it was as advertised. I would like to state that this is designed more for a woodstove round pipe application. However, with a little practice it will do the job. Also for future reference I slid a 1" diameter X 12"long piece of PVC over the shaft to aid in the guidance of the brush when cleaning the chimney from the top.

The kit is as described
I really didn't want to spend $200 plus on having the chimney swept, so I opted to buy this kit, and I am glad I did. I followed the instructions and had no problems cleaning the chimney and had a minimum of mess. Everything worked fine and fitted OK. Well worth the money.

chimney brushes
It made for easy cleaning but what was not mentioned is that it has to be cut for chimney size. Have out side pipes to cleaning and it does leaves soot all over the place so be sure to use a drop cloth. plastic is slippery and at my age i do not need to fall but it is easier to clean the chimney pipes from below the getting on the roof thank you I always was looking for something like this to usethank you
