Tell Me About Heaven

Great read-aloud book for me and my boys as we grieve
My youngest son Christian passed away almost 8 months ago in a drowning accident. He was 2 months shy of his 4th birthday. There are many children's books on the market dealing with death-- none of which I would consider reading with my boys (7.5 and 9.5yo). They would either be scary, too mystic, or say inaccurate things like "when we die we turn into stars in the sky."This book, however, is different. We read one chapter a night together before bed. I am thankful not only for the use of Scripture in this book, but the illustrations and the gentle but straightforward story of a boy and his grandpa talking about the death of the boy's grandmother. After each chapter, my boys would ask me to read more. :) I stuck with only one chapter a night so we could just talk about our memories of their little brother-- the fun times, the silliness, his antics and just HOW MUCH WE MISS HIM. I am so thankful that God gives us the grace to still laugh-- even when we're crying, even when we hurt so deeply! We would end the night by praying together and thanking God for giving us time with Christian and how, through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, we will spend eternity all together.. forever.. never to be separated again. If you know anyone that is grieving the death of a friend or family member, this book is excellent not only for children but for adults as well. I highly recommend this book and reading it together as a family!Thank you, Mr. Alcorn, for writing this book. A missionary friend also sent me your book "Safely Home" that ministered greatly to me. I have been a Christian for over 20 years (praise the Lord!) and I always knew what the Bible says about Heaven.. but your books have made it that much more REAL to me and has encouraged me to look further in the Bible and look FORWARD in my life (no matter how much my flesh just wants to stand still and feel sorry for myself).

Excellent Read for Kids & Adults
This book is so well written. I was looking for a book to help explain the questions my 5 year old was asking me. Two of his great-grandfathers passed away last year, so it caused a lot of thinking for him & wondering. I was unsure when I first purchased this book if it would be too old for him, but I'm so glad I got it. It doesn't have a whole lot of pictures, as books for 5 year olds do. However, the story line was captivating. It reads more like a chapter book. We'd read a page or 2 each night, and he loved it. Normally, he's ready to move on to the next thing that's caught his attention, but this kept him very interested. Even I learned things & had questions answered by reading this book! The author is great, no make that fantastic about referencing Bible verses to back up what is being discussed. It's amazing to me how much my son absorbed from this too. I wondered if he was really "getting it" when I read it to him, or if he just thought it was a story about a boy who lost his grandmother. But he's brought up things from the book many times since purchasing this months ago.

Illuminating
This book is much more than a children’s book. This is a story to be read and reread, much like the scripture it is based on. The illustrations are exceptional.

Interesting, informative, excellent book
I read this to my 9 and 11 year old grandchildren when my father passed. It was heartwarming, not too heavy but very informative. I highly recommend this for all to read.

We love the consise description of heaven
We read this to my kids, a couple pages at a time, as it has a lot of words per page. We love the consise description of heaven, how deep it goes, & how it answers so many questions that children have about where we go if we love Jesus. Its all told in a story about a boy visiting his grandpa, so it is very converstional. This book is the children's verson of Heaven. I am reading "50 Days of Heaven" by Alcorn, and I appreciate that "Tell Me about Heaven" is not "dumbed down" version. This was bought to help my children process the sudden and catastrophic death of my son & their older brother. The pain is excrutiating, but we know where their older brother is, and while we hurt, we can be joyful for how he is living now. I am so grateful to have this book as a resource during this time, and in the years to come.

For children who have felt the death of a loved one
It seems over-simplified in some regards but overall, a very good read for children that have questions about heaven, or for those that have had loved ones die.We are spiritual beings and children desire truth. Based on truths from the Bible, the author has done his best to convey these ideas.

Amazing!
This is an excellent story book/chapter book with beautiful paintings. I highly recommend this to anybody who wants to create excitement and expectation for Heaven in their children, so that they can live in freedom and have fulfilling lives now. Entirely biblical, and told in a captivating way.

tell me about heaven
this book is beautifully looking, but too adult for the child that i bought it for. I just returned it recently because it wasn't suitable, it too long and wordy and seems more suited for teenagers and older. I was disappointed as it didn't specify that.
