Do you use this instead of a conditioner or in addition to?

Good question. I use it in addition to. My hair has been colored for 25 years so it's not in great condition. Any extra love I can give it I do. This works as a detangler too because my conditioner doesn't do well in that department.

I am looking for something to help my 8yr old daughter with fine hair that is getting very dry this summer, would this work on a child?

I have very fine hair that gets dry very easily! After I tried this I LOVE IT!!! It makes my hair shiney, soft and beautiful. It has also helped my hair grow alot. So to answer your question yes! This stuff is amazing and will definately help with dry hair!
