Volume II- The Native American Flute: Understanding the Gift SONGBOOK with CD

This and volume I are fantastic books for beginning musicians who want more than just being able to make pretty sound with a NAF. I found them to be great tutorials on how to read sheet music, learning the beat, and the background that will set you up very well for learning the NAF, playing others songs, and learning how to compose your own songs.If you're a beginning musician then these are the books for you. As I mentioned in my review of R. Carlos Nakai's book "The Art of the Native American Flute" I think that is a fantastic book and a must have for NAV musicians, but it's not for beginners. Start with John Vames and then move to R. Carlos Nakai and I think you will be happier. If you're already well versed in music then you may want to skip Vames and go straight to Nakai.

I have been playing for awhile and I have found his books to be my favorites. The music instruction and music are great for beginners. You do need to learn to read Nakai tab, but take it from a very non musical person, if I can do it, you can. Also having a CD is so helpful, I like hearing the songs so I can improve my style. Though he is no longer with us...Thank you John Vames for sharing your knowledge and teaching skills with us.

I bought the book to play the flute I have. It has some fun tunes and teaches the fingerings.

The coninuation from Volulme 1 is excellent. It opens many new songs and the low key teaching style makes it enjoyable to learn.

Great teacher who wrote it all down and put it on a cd. This is my best how-to book on playing the Native American flute.

The book is great. Make sure you get the 1st volume before the 2nd volume.
