Bring it, punk.
Paine, the no-nonsense heroine from Final Fantasy X-2 comes to us in all her violent, antisocial glory! If you've ever played the game, you know that Paine is clearly the most badass member of YRP -- but does her action figure live up to the original? Using a five point system, I hope to easily convey the various pros and cons of this figure in order to help you make an informed purchase. Below, I will detail the ratings and how I came to those conclusions. I have also taken photos of Paine and her related packaging for your convenience.Likeness: 5/5 - The figure looks exactly like Paine, and all the details of her default costume are present. The attention to detail in the sculpt is really quite impressive.Paint: 4/5 - Most of the colors stay in the lines on the figure, but some of the facial details could have been painted more precisely. Paint jobs vary from figure to figure, so your mileage may vary on this one.Posability: 2/5 - There's a reason Paine is in such generic, stiff poses in the product images above. The major factor contributing to her inability to pose dynamically lies in the nature of her costume, but some of the figure's design further limits your options. The black cover which drapes across her arms and chest is made of a flexible plastic, so it has a bit of give, but it's glued to her breasts and can't be moved too much (or taken off) as a result. This really limits the ability to raise her arms when posing her. Her hair is made of a similar flexible plastic material, but at the point where it meets her neck in the back, it prevents the head from being turned very far in either direction. She has a swivel joint in the middle of her torso which is nicely concealed by the upper belt of her costume which serves as the hip joint, effectively. Her upper arms can be rotated 360 degrees, but there's little reason to do this since she can't raise them. Her forearms can be rotated 360 degrees as well, but she has no wrist joints at all. The brown belt around her waist is not attached to the figure, and can be removed or positioned as you see fit.Her legs are the most frustrating feature of the figure from a posing standpoint. They can be moved together and apart slightly in order to adjust the width of her stance, but they can really only move forward in any significant way, and only about 40 degrees. This means she can kinda-sorta raise her leg into a "knee you in the crotch" position, but she can't actually sit down on the edge of a shelf or table. The ankles can be rotated and slightly adjusted in forward and back positions. There is no ball joint in the foot, so she can be a little challenging to stand, but I find that giving her a somewhat wider stance helps to alleviate stability issues when not using the included stand.Customization: 3/5 - Paine comes with a set of 4 different "hands", which actually consist of the hand and the forearm (see pictures).- Two "claw grip" hand parts (one right, one left). This is the type laying in the foreground of the picture.- One "open hand" hand part with slightly splayed fingers. This is the type standing upright in the picture.- One "sword grip" hand part. You can see the sword in all of the pictures I took. It looks just like her default sword in the game. The hands are attached quite tightly to a peg just below the elbow joint. This makes for some rather nerve-wracking moments as you try not to snap her skinny little elbow out of socket while you struggle to pull/push them on/off. I wouldn't recommend swapping them out too often. The lack of extra facial expressions or props isn't surprising considering the price and detail level of this figure, so I can't really fault it for that. Additional dresspheres are outside the scope of a single figure, and that's where most of the changes to her appearance/abilities occur in the actual game, anyway.Packaging: 3/5 - The white box she comes in has a simplistic, clean design with a nice frontal display window (and two smaller side windows) for those of you who don't like to take your figures out of the package. If, however, you like to take your toys out of the box and display and/or play with them (like me!) there are a few things you should know. She's secured in the plastic housing via twisty-ties, but she's also held in there by the mold of the plastic as well. Freeing her from the confines of the box is a bit of a delicate process. The sword is actually held in place by pre-cut slits in the plastic which the blade is "threaded" through. I thought I'd have to cut it free at first, but with a little bit of fiddling, I managed to safely slide it out.The single most disappointing thing about the packaging is the stand. You can see in the picture I've provided that the stand is contained inside a plastic shell which is glued to the back of the inner lining of the box. This means you'll have to tear it apart to get the stand out, which obviously ruins the presentation of the packaging. I opted not to remove the stand from the packaging, personally.Overall: 4/5 - If you're a fan of the game and the character, and you enjoy collecting figures as much as I do, don't hesitate to give Paine a home. Her limited poses can be a bit off-putting, but the character is kind of a stiffly stifferson anyway, right? She may not be the liveliest figure on your shelf, but she's certainly one of the deadliest (and grumpiest).I hope you found this review informative. Thanks for reading!

Fantastic detail; brittle joints.
The figurine is very well detailed, definitely an excellent likeness to the source material. That being said, it it EXTREMELY brittle; namely the knee joints. I'm a very gentle person who tends to assemble model plain kits and the like, so when I was extracting the figurine, I was extremely dismayed and shocked that the right leg peg actually snapped at the slightest of pressures. I'm unsure if this was a production error or what, but I would caution anyone when buying this figurine, if you're going to extract it from the box, consider cutting the plastic away rather than trying to remove her manually.

Fantasy Figure!
Not too much is known about Paine except that she is apparently an original member of the Kammone clan. She replaces Tidus with the traditional sword role and is said to have an introverted personality and work better in the darker arts such as a black mage. FFX-2 developer Kazushige Nojima has described her as kind of a female Squall. This figure looks better in real life than in the pics. It stands 7" tall and includes a set of extra hands. The packaging looks great and the detail, craftsmanship and quality are superb. This version has 16 points of articulation.A must have for all Square Soft, Final Fantasy and anime collectors. A limited edition so get yours while you can!

For Paine Fans
Other reviews have clearly covered the physical details, so there is little than I can add. However, as a gamer who fell in love the Paine image, the action figure brings something from the Spiran world and adds to reality. Instead of having to focus on the game, you can look at the intricate detail of her main design in 3-D /and/ touch it. The joints are a little awkward, but beyond that its fine to add to a collection.

Wow, what an awesome figure!
This figure of Paine is great in that the face and body proportions look just like the designs by video game artist Tetsuya Nomura. The face sculpt is very elegant and the costume is full of detail. Her hairstyle is a type that could have been easily messed up, but it is pulled off very, very nicely here.Articulation is also excellent, although she could have used a ball-jointed head/neck like the her pals, Yuna and Rikku. Paine is slightly tipsy, but she can still stand well enough on her own without using her display stand. For accessories, Paine has a big cool sword, but it comes attached to an extra hand, so that you have to change hands for her to hold the weapon. I would have preferred a design where the weapon could be directly placed into and removed from the hands. However, the non-weapon hands are sculpted in a cool gesture.Paine is listed here on Amazon at a terrific value. I highly recommend this figure and while you're at it, get Rikku and Yuna too!
