Works better than I believed.
I live in a basement apartment. My window unit AC doesn't drain for some reason, so it gets a bit humid in here. I bought this hoping it could help a bit, and it did. More than just a bit. My couch no longer feels damp, and I can sleep without feeling sticky. I accidently left if off after emptying the tray before I went to work, and when I came home I was shocked at how humid my apartment felt. Turned it back on and a few hours later it felt great in here again. One note, this is not meant for large areas. I live in, essentially, one big room. I think my bedroom growing up was larger than this apartment. So if you want this to dry out a large area, buy two. Or stick with a compressor type, those work just fine.To address a few points found in other reviews.1. Noise. I can't hear it over my AC. With the AC off, it may be slightly louder than my computer.2. Overheating power transformer. It does get a bit hot, but I keep it on the same heat sink I use for my computer (a slab of marble) and it never gets more than warm to the touch.3. "It doesn't work!". Mine works fine, but then I use it as the manufacturer recommends, in a small room. After getting used to having it on, 12 hours without it was enough to convince me that it was a great purchase.4. "People got free ones to review it". Yep, some people did. I didn't, and I agree with the reviews they gave.

Hope this answers the concerns I had before I bought the unit
So far so good. I'll answer the concerns that were brought up in other reviews (which were the concerns that I was worried about before I bought it). I've had the unit working for about 5 days and it's working as advertised.1) The humidifier does work, that is, it pulls water out of the air. I live in a studio (about 600 square feet), and while there is cooling, it isn't really a/c. So, it gets fairly humid in the summer indoors. I have a thermometer that also measures humidity, which will help with this review. When I first turned this unit on, the humidity was around 70% at around 71 degrees F. After about a day, the humidity dropped to about 62% (this is with very humid conditions outside). The dehumidifier took a large amount of water out of the air and filled about 1/4 of the container (I didn't measure the exact amount that time). Since then, I have been measuring the amount that I dump out every 24ish hours, and I get about 1.5 cups of water. So, it does work, even at 62% humidity. That said, it's not dropping the humidity by a drastic level (although there is now a noticeable difference between my unit and the common hallway, which there did not used to be).2) So far, the plug in the back of the unit does not get hot at all, and while the "transformer" box that is part of the extension cord that comes with it does get a little warm, it's not bad.I will update this review when I have had the unit a bit longer, but again, it's working.

Works well in small spaces. Too bad the electrical adapter runs hot.
I purchased the IVADM35 a few weeks ago to keep humidity in check in my music room. The device works very well at extracting moisture from the air. I was pleasantly surprised to find myself emptying the device every 36-48 hours since moisture captured in the reservoir meant - to me - water not decaying my precious musical instruments. So, on this level I very much liked the IVADM35.I am in the middle on making a recommendation when talking about how much space this device actually covers. It sat in a 10x10 room, which had humidity detectors on two of the walls and inside the closet. None of the detectors showed any drop in humidity. Of course, I saw the device taking in water, but the entire room seemed to be unaffected. I purchased this device under the impression it was a mid-range, intermediate dehumidifier capable of handling the space. Turns out it would probably fare very well in a closet or much smaller room. And now for the negative. The electrical adapter gets very hot. So, hot in fact I feared leaving the device on when I was not in the room. I did leave it alone in the room, but when I left the house for any significant amount of time I unplugged it. I am not sure whether I got a faulty electrical adapter or if this was expected. In any case, because of the heat it generated and my fear of possible fire I returned the item.I liked the IVADM35 and would've kept it if the adapter did not get so hot during use.

This Unit Is A Life Saver
These dehumidifiers ROCK!!! We moved to a place that is much more humid than my previous residence. Having never had to contend with 85%+ humidity levels before, I knew we needed to do something or there would eventually be problems. I originally purchased the mini version of this dehumidifier and quickly realized that they may work for the bathroom and kitchen, but our larger bedroom and living room area was way too big. After reading more reviews, someone suggested this size for larger rooms. I purchased two of them (one for the bedroom and one for the living room) and was amazed at how much water it sucked from the air. I have a humidity gauge in both rooms and am pleasantly surprised that after about a week, the humidity levels went from 85%+ on average to now 68%-72% on average. I keep them running all day long and have to dump the water about every other day (I don't want them to shut off, so when it gets about 1/2 way full, I dump them). You will need to be sure to keep the front grate clean. Dust tends to build up on the ridges and make sure that you don't place anything around the unit so it has enough room to pull the air in through the front and out the sides. As far as the noise level, it's about the same as a fan running. if you have issues with a fan, you will have issues with the noise level of this unit.

Manual Switch! Turn it on and even if the power fails, it will resume when power is restored!
I looked for a very long time trying to find a unit that had a manual on/off switch. Our power is pretty dependable but blinks out from time to time and using this in a location that is not quickly accessed, it needs to be able to resume operation when power is restored. I have 3 of these now and am very pleased! They just WORK!
