Trashy and fun
There's nothing better than trash when you're in the mood for a hot, soapy mess. THE HIT LIST served this function admirably, with a truly bizarre storyline that somehow worked. I mean, I never would have thought about combining a story about a broken ballerina trying to redeem herself and a college sex game together, but maybe I'm doing something wrong with my life.Sadie was once a promising ballerina on the cusp of a prestigious career. Then her dance partner let her fall, and after a devastating injury and even more devastating breach of trust, Sadie was left in the ashes of her rising phoenix ex-partner. She was so ~damaged~ that she left New York for L.A., to go to a performing arts college where she can lick her wounds. She is instantly attracted to this guy named Luke, but all of her friends - especially this girl named Brielle - say that he's bad news. When he's assigned as her dance partner, Sadie absolutely feels that she cannot trust him; she's afraid of falling in more ways than one (ho, ho, ho). Worse still, Luke is one of those dudes who delights in mixed signals, and the whole book is a game of "he loves me, he loves me not," up until the very end, when you finally figure out what's going on.What makes the whole "he loves me, he loves me not" aspect even more devious is that Sadie's college is playing a sex game where a bunch of boys, called "Hitters" can sign up to "hit that" (read: hot women voted on by the school) for points. Urang saves this from being super-extra-wtf-skeevy by having the people in charge of the game insist that all "scores" must be consensual. It's still pretty skeevy though.Sadie is one of the chosen, because of course she is, and the blurb is a little misleading in this regard because it makes it sound like Sadie is the #1 choice. She isn't. At least, not for a while. The game actually has little to do with the story, apart from stirring up all kinds of angst with Luke.I liked this book because it was trashy, and I was in the mood for trash. It is very readable and those pages went by quickly. The dance angle was interesting and I'm apparently a sucker for these types of performing art/tortured artist stories. Sadie's story was sad and I did want to see her do well - that's PART of what annoyed me so much about the ending. The other thing that annoyed me about the ending was someone does something bad and faces no consequences for it. WHAT. Why?If you like trashy new adult that is well-written and more engaging than the usual "rich white people with self-manufactured problems and way too much unprotected sex" formula, THE HIT LIST is worth checking out. Just keep in mind that it is very trashy and has a stupid ending.2.5 to 3 out of 5 stars

Meh
I had several issues with this book, so I’m going to start off by breaking down what I didn’t like and then moving on to some of the aspects that I did.First of all, I had major issues with the main character, Sadie. To me, she just came across as being super whiny, irritating, and indecisive- I really can’t think of a single thing that I liked about her. She has trust issues due to her injury and betrayal by her ex-boyfriend/ex-dance partner (which the author will be sure to remind you about on at least 15 different occasions). She hardly ever speaks up for herself; instead, she relies on surrounding characters to do all the talking for her. Even when guys are borderline sexually harassing her, she either a: says NOTHING or b: waits around for someone else to protect her. At times she seems incredibly immature and really can’t make up her mind about anything important in her life. Lastly, she seems to be very talented at dancing, and she has a deeply rooted passion for it, yet she keeps forgetting that in her effort to organize her thoughts about one guy or another. As for the other aspects of this book, I found them to be unoriginal and forgettable. The main love interest is the typical sometimes jerky/ sometimes sweet guy with commitment issues, and money and power bestowed upon him by his parents’ status. There are many cliches which made me want to repeatedly hit myself in the head with my kindle.Anyways, Sadie and her love interest (which I won’t name because I’m not sure if that qualifies as a spoiler or not) kept having back and forth moments. There was one point, in fact, where Sadie and Love Interest had just finished fighting, and then Sadie storms off only to come back to him a few pages later. Like I said, indecisive. Now that I’m done ranting, I’ll tell you what I liked about the book. Firstly, I’ve never read a book set in a dance institute, so that was something new for me that I somewhat enjoyed. Secondly, the fact that Sadie and Love Interest were dance partners added a little bit of heat to the story, because they constantly had to be glued to one another. Lastly, I enjoyed reading about Sadie’s love for dance and the way it made her feel stronger. That’s pretty much it. Unfortunately, as you can probably tell, my gripes about this book far outweighed any redeeming qualities that I saw.

Happy Hiting!
What a great debut novel!Coming off of a bad break with her former partner, Sadie decides to make a fresh start by moving from NY to LA, where she will attend college at The Conservatory. She is ready to get started and is glad to find a program where she doesn't have to work with a partner. She is ready to get started and not open herself to anyone. When they make the announcement on the first day that you must partner in order to preform in the fall showcase and has to partner with the resident player, Luke, things get bad. And then they go from bad to worse when she realizes that she has become a sex object by being apart of a sex game called "The Hit List".Will Sadie be able to break down her walls and trust Luke to excel at their dance? Or will The Hit List drive a wedge between them?

Good read
I loved the main characters. I liked the backstory for both and the struggles they overcome. I read in a review that the hit list wasn't really necessary to the story and I agree. It would have been a good story without it. Although, it does add something to the story and gives a little extra entertainment and suspense. I never even guessed who was behind it! I was taken completely by surprise and that doesn't happen too often since I read three or four books a week. This story was sweet and romantic. It was a little different than the books I normally read, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. :)

Started off good but...
So the start of this book was really great and I was instantly intrigued and wanted to read on. However as I kept reading it became clear that not much more was going to happen. I personally think that the protagonist was quite annoying as she constantly went on about her trust issues that to me seemed very exaggerated for what caused them. She became very frustrating as she didn't do anything but worry and doubt herself and everyone else. Furthermore in my opinion she definitely over reacts about the list. It may be demeaning to girls but the fact she is having panic attacks over the list is an overkill and makes her come across as weak, not to mention the list takes kinda a dark turn near the end of the book. Speaking of the end of the book it had many loose ends and stuff that was mentioned throughout the book was never revisited or explained. *Sort of a spoiler* for example they never cleared up what happened to her father or her relationship with her mother and we know she forgives Luke at the end if the book but she still seams to be angry at him (for no good reason if you ask me.) I did actually Luke, however the author didn't actually go into that much detail on him so his character didn't have much depth and as a reader I didn't really understand who he was on a personal level.

I didn't believe the romance. There was no chemistry at all. The setting had so much promise but the main character came across as quite whiny and too dramatic for me.3.5/5
