I can't say why because supposedly this knife uses blue steel which is pretty hard steel and not that easily dulled used under .
I recently got Honmamon Yanagiba knife and overall I'm impressed with the quality. I used it recently and this is what I found that the knife does hold an edge okay but not as I expected because I could feel the blade getting significantly duller after a short period of light use. I can't say why because supposedly this knife uses blue steel which is pretty hard steel and not that easily dulled used under normal conditions. Outside of that the knife is good and I'm reasonably satisfied with my purchase.

THE "ART" OF THE BLADE
The very best for taking "keen" edge and holding it a long time between maintainence dressings...usually only needs to be stropped on ocassion (like every three to six months of all day long usage!)...really amazing...but you must learn how to care for this type of blade...you must respect the blade...you must be worthy of the knife...then you will appreciate the magic and the spirit of this art

Best money I have spent on a knife
Got the knife in four days after I purchased, shipped from Japan!Positive:The knife itself is remarkably balanced compared to other less expensive Sujihki, came out of the box very sharp, push cut paper like a champ. Stropped it on a belt I had laying around, and I shaved most of my arm hair off. Overall for 100 bucks you cannot find a better 270mm knife, the value is insane.Negative:Kurouchi finish has been clear coated, I’m sure to cut down on reactivity, so meh. I may remove it, not sure yet.Overall:I can’t wait to get to work and start skinning salmon!
