The Fluffer

It's hard to explain what a "fluffer" is on a family website. Suffice it to say that a fluffer is someone on the set of a porn movie who makes it possible for a male porn star to maintain the illusion that he is enjoying what he is doing on screen. Women can fake it. Men, obviously, cannot.That said, *The Fluffer* is a realistic picture about the gay porn industry. It is also about how vanity, insecurity, helplessness, and ultimately, self-destruction, get expressed in the life of a man who appears to have everything: beauty, fame, people who love him and willingly sacrifice themselves and their own dignity - for a while anyway - to take care of him. In many more important ways, it is an almost perfectly realized cinematic exploration of the relationships between longing and fulfillment, fantasy and reality, love and obsession, the glitzy and the mundane. It's also about growing up and the deep sources of self-respect, how for some, as Blake said, "the road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom," while for others, it leads to spiralling self-destruction and, finally, to despair.The movie treats all of its characters with respect almost bordering on tenderness. The porn superstar's self-destructive dive is not played as a stereotype. Some of the characters in this movie seem functional if not particularly happy with their lives. Others - the three main characters really - find themselves on a pathe to either imminent self-destruction or imminent self-discovery and transformation. The movie does present, for one thing, a morality tale. But the general morality of porn itself is not examined in this movie.A final word: the excellent commentary track is revealing and deeply provocative, pointing out the places where the screenplay or the camera (or both) is communcating the film's dramatic insights as well as it's perfectly wrought structures.Highest recommendation.

Scott Gurney, who first got his start as a lifeguard in "Married...with Children," now plays the cultural equivalent of a modern-day Narcissus in this often enjoyable behind-the-scenes look at the gay porno industry. Not as moving as Boogie Nights, or as complicated, this film has moments that make you laugh, cry, and actually think. The ending is truly inspired, not at all the typical happy hollywood ending, and I encourage straight and gay viewers alike to give it a chance.The film delves deeply, but not in a painstaking sort of way, into the life of a young male naif (Sean) who becomes obsessed with a straight man who does gay porno (for the "gay pay"). It's very typical of someone his age, just learning about life and love, and one can't help but find some empathy for the young man, and disdain for Johnny Rebel (Scott Gurney) and all his wickedness. While Sean is addicted to Johnny, Johnny is addicted to crystal meth. One learns quickly that any type of addiction is dangerous.I normally don't buy DVDs unless I think they're will be some repeat entertainment value, and this one falls into that category. Also, look for cameos from the gay entertainment industry, including Chi Chi Larue and Cole Tucker. Very hysterical.

i just recently got hooked up in purchasing film from the net and little did i realize that whats posted as a review of films being sold were nothing but deceit.(not for all)This particular film was over rated and so much was said to entice me to get one and view it. my experience? It was one film not even worthy of being reviewed. There is nothing there to be explained. the story was dumb, the whole film was a disaster. It was as if the film was conceived by a highly intoxicated and drugged writer.

"The Fluffer" is, despite the fact that it's landscape and subject matter are that of the gay porn biz, actually a very mainstream-friendly movie. Espcecially since "alternative" is the new mainstream. People are falling all over themselves to find the next big, untapped market, and porn may well be it. The production values here are top notch, the acting superb, the characters fleshed out (no pun intended) and the central story and conflict are compelling. It is shot with much more style and verve than most of what's on the Sundance channel, too. It has a great look to it, and a wonderfully dry humor in the form of recurring comic motifs that are easy to miss if you're not paying attention. There was a time, not so long ago, when this would have been a hard movie to sell, except to a very select audience, but since "Boogie Nights" lifted the stigma of porn and boosted it's appeal as one of the final frontiers untapped by the mainstream, it should have no problem getting out there.

I was disappointed in the movie in many ways, but I'll admit that it stems from my own predispositions. I found the main character (porn star) to be utterly contemptible, and the fluffier to be a person almost to be pitied. I very rarely purchase movies, but this one was not available for streaming. I was ultimately disappointed in my purchase - but I will pass it on to a friend.

I saw this movie before and liked it so much I had to buy it. It's actually a really good watch. Shows a pretty good inside view of what happens behind the scenes.

Who among us has not fallen in love with someone either unattainable or unworthy of us. Many of us have found someone to fill both those unsatisfying qualities. In The Fluffer, we get to see how physical beauty can overwhelm us with both desire and disappointment. This is an important film in the gay genre. It's beautifully shot, incredibly well directed and is an excellent achievement in storytelling. Highly recommended!!!

it was a good film it gave insight to a very exciting type of business.i have been wanting to see it for a while so it satisfied my craving in that department. but yet you can still tell that it had sort of an independent film type of quality if you get me. still better than some i've seen recently

.... una storia gradevole, che tocca in modo abbastanza soft il mondo della produzione porno.Mi è parso ben interpretato...e non del tutto scontato.

Grand amateur de films classiques, Sean loue Citizen Kane (version remasterisée) mais se retrouve en fait avec la cassette de "Citizen Cum", la version porno gay. Il y voit une scène avec l'acteur Johnny Rebel et c'est un véritable coup de foudre pour cet acteur. Sean réussi même à se faire employer dans sa maison de production pour être au plus près de la star. Il y apprend que Johnny Rebel est en fait hétéro et qu'il ne tourne des films porno gays que pour l'argent. Cependant, on demande également à Sean de lui servir de "chauffeur" ("fluffer" en anglais), c'est-à-dire l'aider à avoir une érection lorsqu'il a un peu de mal sur le tournage.D'un côté, Sean est ébloui par Johnny et ne voit que ce personnage de film porno ; de l'autre côté, Johnny est une personne totalement égocentrique, narcissique, violente et autodestructrice (alcool, drogue...). Pour des raisons différentes, ils sont aussi aveugles l'un que l'autre et lorsque Johnny commet un meurtre, Sean n'hésite pas une seconde à prendre les choses en main et s'enfuir avec son idole au Mexique.Pas la peine de chercher une grande morale à cette histoire. C'est juste un film agréable à regarder.

Warum es sich lohnt, diesen Film zu sehen? Na, klar doch: wegen Scott Gurney, dem man es ohne weiteres abnimmt, ein Pornostar zu sein: muskulös, blendend aussehend. Und das Teil, das das Wichtigste in diesem Gewerbe ist, kann der Zuschauer auch ganz kurz begutachten: Nicht von schlechten Eltern!Allerdings nicht nur deswegen; denn während des Films merkt man, dass er ein wirklich guter Schauspieler ist; denn er verkörpert authentisch diesen Porno-Johnny, der der Star in schwulen Pornofilmen ist. Und dessen Leben hat kein bisschen Glanz, genauso wenig wie die ganze Branche, die so armselig ist wie die Filme, die sie produziert. Und wenn man dann noch ein 100%iger Hetero ist, dann braucht man einen Fluffer, eine Hilfskraft, die das wichtigste Körperteil immer in Top-Form hält.Das ist Sean, dem Filmstudenten, nur recht, hat er sich doch in diesen Kerl verguckt, glaubt so ihm näher kommen, vielleicht sogar eine gemeinsame Zukunft haben zu können. Aber die hat nicht mal die Freundin von Johnny, der immer weiter sinkt, nur noch seinem Drogenkonsum verpflichtet.Dieser Film ist ein wenig ein Coming-Out-Film, erzählt aber mehr von Träumen, die sich in der harten Realität der Pornoindustrie und Nachtclubszene nicht realisieren lassen, scheitern müssen.Für meine Begriffe einer der besten Filme, die sich mit Homosexualität befassen, was aber nicht das wirkliche wesentliche Element des Films ist. Und schon gar nicht ist es eine dieser 08/15 Schwulen-Romanzen. Welch ein Glück!

This is the story of Sean, a budding young film maker who turns up at a porn studio after watching a video of his star idol, Johnny Rebel. He lands the job, meets Johnny and gets a bit more than he bargained for.Any of us gay men who had an unrequited crush on a straight man, will relate to this film, one way or another. It looks independent / small budget but it has a touching storyline. Michael Cunio gives a solid performance as the innocent Sean, while Scott Gurney provides the perfect eye candy as the good looking, vain and ultimately screwed up Johnny Rebel.
