This 6.5-inch three-way kit adds a 4-inch midrange speaker to the A1's offerings, so it can deliver even more Focal sound--extreme dynamics, punchy bass and accurate treble, with an expansive soundstage to fill your vehicle with crystal-clear audio. The 6.5-inch woofers boast a one-inch voice coil with excellent power handling, a high-sensitivity magnet, and butyl rubber surround for durability and powerful bass. The aluminum inverted dome tweeters provide clear and accurate treble, and can be set at three different levels using the crossovers, to provide the ideal relative volume for its install location. Experience Focal's "Spirit of Sound" with flawless imaging, and uncommon detail and dynamics. About the Access Line Discover the world of Focal sound quality via a range that reconciles technology, performance and affordability. The same Focal character and our philosophy of "The Spirit of Sound" is displayed by the extreme attention to detail found at every development stage for the various transducers and crossovers. The essential component in terms of quality of reproduction, richness of timbre plus image detail is the inverted dome aluminum tweeter whose inclusion represented a true challenge: how to bring a unique Focal technology into a more affordable market segment. At the same time, the woofers and subwoofers combine high sensitivity and high power handling. The humidity resistant woven glass fibre cone combines the dynamics and precision of the mid-range while offering a deep and articulated bass. The 165 A3 kit adds a 4-inch midrange driver to the A1's offerings, with the same construction as the woofer. The woofer's power handling and reliability are remarkable thanks to deliberately oversized voice coils, resulting in deep and accurate bass. The special all weather cone will perform in hot and humid environments without distortion or warping. The woofer's power handling and reliability are remarkable thanks to deliberately oversized voice coils, resulting in deep and accurate bass. Painted DIN chassis, 20% glass fiber filled ABS material This strong, rigid chassis is non-magnetic and nonresonant. All weather woven glass fiber cone The durable, humidity-resistant cone provides dynamic bass and precise midrange. Phase plug Phase plug designs control midrange out of the listening axis, for added accuracy. 25mm (1") voice coil (woofer) Larger voice coils provide excellent power handling, which in turn provides a tight, well-defined low-end. 85mm (3-1/3") magnet (woofer) High sensitivity where everything begins. Voice coil cooling system Provides reliable, consistent performance, no matter what kind of abuse your system dishes out. The TN 44 tweeter Aluminum inverted dome tweeter technology offers significant rigidity and lowers distortion. Ideal air coupling, the main advantage of the inverted dome shape, allows a very wide soundstage and very accurate image, unlike a convex (traditional) dome that is moving more on its periphery than on its center, causing a weak coil/dome energy transfer. Aluminum inverted dome tweeter Provides accurate treble with the utmost efficiency. 20mm (13/16") ferrofluid voice coil Excellent power handling and heat dispersal. Crossover The 12/12dB/octave (300Hz-4kHz) separated Access crossover fully reflects Focal's philosophy, which is oriented toward product application and uncompromising quality requirements. Polypropylene capacitors bring to these products high and distortion-free dynamics. Level control available in two-way systems allows refining the tuning of the tweeter in all locations. Adjustable tweeter level Adjust the tweeter level control according to location (3 level settings) with a simple switch. Air core inductors Insensitive to parasite interferences. 165 A1 Technical SpecificationsFrequency response: 55Hz - 20kHz Nominal power: 80 W Maximum power: 160W Sensitivity: 92 dB Cone: Braided glass fiber Surround: Butyl Nom. impedance: 4 ohms DC resistance: 3.31 ohms VC diameter: 25mm (1 inch) VC height: 11 mm (7/16 inch) Former: Kapton Layers: 2 Wire: Copper Inductance: 0.21 mH Magnet Dimensions (D x H): 85 x 15mm (3-1/3 x 9/16 inches) Magnet weight: 0.35 kg (.77 lb.) For 25 years, through the pursuit of constant new advances in technology, Focal has been able to develop a harmonious research and production system that enables us to continuously improve our products and introduce new ones, all with the same goal: the most faithful reproduction of music. The latest example of this philosophy has been the introduction of Beryllium in our top products, which has become a new reference worldwide. Constantly pursuing innovation is the embodiment of Focal's corporate strategy and that goal involves every facet of the company. From R&D to production to quality control, all our teams are fully involved and focused on this one objective: continual progress through innovation. In today's world, where globalization and the pursuit of chasing cheaper production methods have tempted most companies to splinter their organizations, Focal has opted to be different. Though we have grown tremendously through the years, our R & D, headquarters and manufacturing facilities remain based in Saint-Etienne (France). We have learned that true innovation is not simply work carried out at the research department, but is also a question of comprehensive management and the direct control of the different production phases. The example of Beryllium is a significant one. Only three years ago no one was capable of producing tweeters with a pure Beryllium foil dome. Focal innovated a solution based on research and the invention of specific in-house industrial processes. Such an approach has given us an important advantage over our competitors: we develop our own technology, which allows us to consistently provide true quality production using our own methods. In 2008, the Focal Car range gets richer with a new amplifier line: Solid. This perfectly sums up Focal's commitment for high musical quality from the entry-level contrary to the general tendency that consists in looking for the cheapest prices in priority instead of performance. The result is music standardization and trivialization, which is highly prejudicial to sound quality. Focal cultivates this difference. This is the core strength of our brand and our company. This is the Spirit of Sound. We want to share this with you... Beautiful clean sound for a great price.
If you're looking for that high end Focal sound without breaking the bank these are the speakers for you. High highs, good mids, and lows. Definitely buy from Woofers etc. Great prices and even better customer service!

Simply the best speakers I've ever had!
I installed this speaker set nearly five years ago in my VW Westfalia camper van. This is my third van and third sound system and I think I really got it right this time. I'm blown away with the sound quality that the component speakers offer. People who ride in my van are always commenting on how they didn't expect such good audio quality in my old van. At highway speeds, my van can get pretty loud and when I crank up the volume to overcome the ambient noise, I've never heard any distortion and it completely masks the van/road noise. The tweeters are mounted on the dash closer to ear level and the crossovers are mounted under the front seats. The speakers sound every bit as good today as they did 5 years ago.

High pitchy tweets
Can't beat the quality of sound these speakers produce for the price. A little high on the tweets though. Still haven't switched the selector to low on the crossover. Hopefully it balances out. As far as everything else, perfect center stage speakers

Great product and service from both.
Focal? You can’t go wrong. Unbelievable sound and clarity. Be prepared to hear things in songs you never heard before. Woofersetc? Top notch. I believe my 4 channel amp spiked and blew a tweeter the second day installed. I already had another amp and woofersetc sent me a new tweeter immediately. Great customer service.

Some Caveats With These Speakers
The three stars I'm giving this item is not meant as a rating on the sound quality but, rather, on the specific difficulties I had with the product. Read on and judge for yourself.I purchased this speaker system, together with a Kenwood DNX6990 HD navigation unit, to install into a 2007 Honda Odyssey. I ran into two problems, neither entirely the fault of Focal, though clearer instructions on the applications of these speakers would have been very helpful and, most likely, would have resulted in my purchasing a different set of speakers.Problem 1: This speaker set features a pair of tweeters, a pair of mid-ranges, and a pair of woofers. Together in a small vehicle, I'm sure the six speakers blend the sound frequencies well. Spread across any space say, larger than a Honda Accord, and the sound separation becomes too much. In my case, when sitting in the driver and passenger seats, only the highs and mids could be heard. People in the backseats heard only the base from the woofers. Sitting in the center seats resulted in hearing the best blend of sound. Unfortunately, not everyone can sit in the middle. While an audiophile would realize this might be a problem before purchasing them, a neophyte such as myself would not. Beware. These speakers are not for vehicles the size of large sedans and above.Problem 2: Clipping due, in part, to non-typical wiring. These speakers are designed to be wired together (in series). From the head units perspective, the 6 speakers might as well be one large speaker. Separate channels go unused. Impedance increases as a result. In my case this caused clipping to occur when pushing the volume to maximum. In other words, the speakers crackled. According to my installer, this wiring setup is not typical of what most people put in their cars, generally, head units with separate channels, and component speakers designed to work with those separate channels. He further indicated that, out of the factory, you only saw certain makes and models of vehicles use this set up, BMW, for example, being one of them. There's nothing wrong with the set up, per se, but it needs to be a consideration when choosing a head unit to work with this particular wiring. At this point I had two choices - install an amplifier to, hopefully, eliminate the clipping and ignore the over separation problem, or go with a different set of speakers. I finally opted to replace the Focals with "component" Pioneer speakers - tweeters in the dash, woofers in the doors, and two-ways in the rear, each working off separate channels. My system now sounds great with no clipping, and the speaker setup is a far better balance for my particular space.I don't want to trash these speakers completely. They sounded great right up until the clipping started. Too, the spacing issue was squarely my mistake, illustrating the danger of choosing your own speakers without speaking to a professional first. That said, Focal and their distributors should make the application of this speaker system clearer for people like me. The clipping issue, on the other hand, is more of a gray area, a result, in part, of Focal's odd choice of wiring setup. I'm sure in specific applications, with the proper hardware to make up for the non-typical wiring, these speakers would do fine. People should know this, however, before the purchase. If you purchase these, just be aware of what you'll be facing if you decide to go with them, and make sure you have the proper space, hardware and amplification.
