Holbein Foundation Colors Many artists overlook or are unaware of the advantages of underpainting. Underpainting a proper foundation not only provides a barrier between the oil paints and the primed surface but will greatly enhance the full and lasting qualities of color. Foundation White along with three foundation colors are specially formulated with quick drying Silver White (lead white). All four foundation colors are loaded with a high percentage of pigment in linseed oil. The lead content allows for quick drying (24 to 30 hours) applications should be in thin layers for optimum results.
