It was a great sized drive and its capacity was adequate while it worked. My Retina MacBook Pro begun exhibiting voltage issues in its USB ports and I found out later (too late) that it was what killed the drive. The platters would spin but the HDD would not mount in the OS.Iomega's support was aloof.Duplicate back-ups. It is essential if you care about your data.

When you attach this drive to a computer it automatically loads a virtual CD titled Iomega. On that CD is an old version of the Iomega Encryption Utility. This virtual CD is as much a benefit to this hard drive as a nail is to a car tire. You have to pull out the nail and patch the hole to make it usable. It's a similar process with the Virtual CD. You need to find an updated copy of the Encryption Utility, create an account with Iomega, download the 80Mb file, install it (on a PC) and use it to remove the virtual CD. Do this before you put anything on the drive because it will wipe the drive in the process. No, formatting the drive won't remove the virtual CD, I already checked.This is all particularly annoying for me because I'm on a mac with a slow internet connection. This is a 30 minute download, just so I can copy the utility to a PC to remove the virtual CD before moving the drive back to format it as a mac partition. This drive may be a 2.5" drive, but it's thicker than my laptop. For a portable hard drive that's not good.I may come back and raise the number of stars on this review if it's a particularly amazing drive, but for now it's stuck with two stars because it's taken an hour to copy a 1 Mb file... 59:30 to download the utility and format the drive and :30 for the file.***update***If you opened the Encryption Utility then it installed in the background on your computer. You MUST uninstall 1.0 before you can open/install 1.3. 1.3 will trick you by opening 1.0 if it's installed. No warnings or anything.

I bought one of these at Fry's and love it. I keep all my photos, work and college powerpoints on it. Its a back up and protable storage so I take it with me as needed. It feels substantial and sturdy. Cool black - I put mine in a travel protective case. The cord has the usb and a additional power cord. Becareful and be sure you have the right cord plugged in to the computer...I went into panic mode when I plugged only the power cord in and nothing came up, right before a presentation. Once I realized it was the wrong one all worked out. So I bought one for work throught Amazon. Perfect... shipping was good, packed well. One thing about the power/usb cord... the end that goes into the actual hard drive is not standard, so If you need a replacement you may have to go back to Iomega. Double check this if this could be an issue for you. It hasn't been for me... but just note to self. I buy and Iomega product again.

they should say the correct user size, ie 930mb!!!they all do this though. iomega is very good though & 3 year warranty!

I have tried many external drives. I like these the most so far. They work every time and do not need a power supply (less to carry). I like how small they are. Also they are easy to format for Mac PC and PS3.

This external drive worked fine for exactly two years....then gave up the ghost. Even though the light was lit, files could not be added or retrieved, and the content could not be accessed. To destroy the data, I pounded it repeatedly with a hammer. But it is indestructible. On the advice of an IT specialist, it is now soaking in water. After a couple of days, it will be recycled.

I found that this was very user friendly and quick. The fact that it is portable and comes with additional power port makes it very fast.
