Enjoyable.
I liked it. I love sci-fi! It was a nice little twist on a seen-before storyline. There's enough character development to help connect to the characters and care about their experiences. The acting was good and Keanu Reeves fit nicely in this role as a scientist, a dad, and a husband. Kept my interest from beginning to end. The only movies I give 5 stars too are the ones that wow me enough to make me talk about it the next day to my friends and watch it again with them at a later date. This was really, really good, but not that good. My only problem with the film is that I see too many details that affect realism. But that's my issue, not the films. I could accept that this movie's story happens at a time where we are advanced enough to do things that we aren't capable of now so the rapid cloning and mind transfer sequences wasn't an eye-rolling moment for me. But on the other hand, for example, cloning doesn't mean that the family looks exactly like they did before the accident, so for the whole family to still have the exact same hair cuts they had before the accident instead of all having super long hair since it had never been cut was a distraction....probably only to me. LOL. And honestly, I can't see how that could have effectively been added to the film without turning it into a completely different story, possibly even a horror flic...lol. Otherwise, it's totally worth the watch on a movie night with friends and family.

A very mature adult movie.
This movie doesn't have a plot so much as it has a cover for a soft-core porno. After the 3rd graphic sex scene my wife asked me to turn it off and I was happy to oblige. It isn't like the plot was actually moving along anyway. There is a paper-thin veneer of suspense but the focus is mainly on Keanu Reeves and a Russian woman and their sordid and shallow sexual affair. The characters aren't particularly likable or relatable. Their decisions are inscrutable. The acting is flat, though that isn't out of the ordinary for Keanu Reeves. The only positive thing I can say about it is that the actual story-telling part of the movie (which was less than 20% of the whole) was interesting enough that I came back to finish it on my own. So my wife didn't find out that there was a 4th graphic sex scene as well as one strongly implied by offensively lewd contrivance. The movie was a lot better once I started skipping past the sex and sexual innuendo to get to the actual story. Still, I wish I hadn't wasted the time on it.

It's not as rotten as tomato throwers say it is.
Look, Ted - oops, KEANU - has never been a strong method actor. But his dark aloofness works in the sci-fi category in films like The Matrix, and in Replicas. Replicas is an interesting new spin on robotics and computing, with a pair of scientists who have collectively figured out two impossible human challenges. It's a great story with an interesting twist I hadn't thought of as a budding sci-fi author in the same realm. Personally, I enjoyed the two "a-ha moments." It was great to see Ed played by Silicon Valley's Thomas Middleditch with the same vigor and wonder as his Pied Piper role. Alice Eve is robotic at best, but considering the story, I think that was the director's choice. John Ortiz plays a cartoonish villain along with several man-bun sporting exotic dancers posing as his goons, but it was probably shoddy direction rather than his performance that spoiled his role. Yes, the effects were sometimes silly and there was poorly rendered CGI at times, and some of the establishing lines could have been less expected, but overall it was an enjoyable 4-star sci-fi flick. Remember to support this genre, or all we'll be left with is Oscar contenders that favor art over story, or worse, superhero movies. And that'd be a pretty boring world.

I gave up on this twice, but third time's the charm!
I came into this movie with expectations, and I was disappointed the first two times not even 15 mins in. I was expecting this to be something it isn't. The movie industry has brainwashed us to expect way too much when things are aways so flashy, gritty and extravagant. I was blown away by the simplicity of this movie once I gave it a chance and excited about a good ending. I would love to see a second movie, one that shows us the future of the world when this technology is popularized. Imagine rich people living forever and the consequences of that? It would also be interesting to see how this robot William deals with grief because he has lost his family too, not to mention he is literally a freaking robot. Would he become a psycho robot millionaire? Would he seek revenge on the real William for leaving him to such a fate and does he feel jealous that he doesn't get the family? Will the family still be hunted? I need to know. Also, Keanu is hot as hell so 5 stars.
