Amazingly effective in training my dog. Beware - shock setting can have traumatizing effect on pet.
The product I purchased may have been a previous version of the same model as mine came with a blue nylon strap collar rather than a plastic orange collar. Everything else appears to be identical. I have had it for about a year and it has always worked perfectly and the battery still seems to charge fine. Although it took a little while for my dog to understand this product, it now plays a very subtle but powerful role in training my dog. When reading this, keep in mind that I am not a professional dog trainer. Please don't take this review as any sort of recommendation on how to use this product or that using the shock setting is a good idea. I believe it would have been a good idea for me to consult a professional dog trainer before purchasing or using this product.I purchased this product out of desperation for my new puppy mastiff after I realized I was unable to compete effectively playing her favorite game, "Catch me if you can". This is the game where she runs around the neighborhood while I chase her and she sees how long it takes me to catch her. This was initially purchased to teach her this game is no longer fun to play. I put on the collar with remote in hand and let her outside, ready to play the game with my newly acquired advantage. As the game started, I activated the sound, which initially had no effect. Then I switched to vibrate, which also had no effect. I switched to a low level shock which had the initial effect of causing her to run faster. As the shock level increased, she began running sporadically, letting out small yelping sounds with each application of shock. At the end of the game, my poor dog was clearly confused and somewhat "in shock" at what had happened. Although I felt some degree of guilt for irresponsibly causing my dog pain and trauma, my dog did learn that "catch me if you can" was no longer a fun game to play. After the initial dramatic use of this product I considered that I probably should have not purchased it and I was committed to being more responsible in future use. After the prior use of the shock setting, my dog seemed to respond alarmingly to the feel of the vibrate setting. When she was not responding to vocal commands like "Come here", a low level sound following a low level vibrate would immediately get her attention and she would respond impressively well. I would leave my dog in the front yard and spy on her from a window. Whenever she stepped out of you yard, she would get a slight sound then vibrate. This quickly taught her not to leave the yard unless being told to.Now, if she is acting a little too wild, or being just a little disobedient, all I have to do is show her the collar and she magically starts behaving perfectly. The collar is now equally effective even if I put it on my own neck and I don't even need the remote. Just the presence of the collar results in behavior correction. If we have small children over who are afraid of the now large mastiff, I have the child hold the collar and my dog doesn't bother our little guest.Just yesterday, I was holding the collar in my hand and showing my brother-in-law the settings. I activated the sound setting to demonstrate it. My dog immediately got up from the far corner of the yard and ran over to me and sat down right next to me. The most impressive thing is, I never actually trained her to come to me when the sound is activated.

This collar worked for us immediately
We saw immediate results walking our dog with this training collar. Except when on leash, she is an almost perfect dog. On leash though, she was always pulling and was always on alert instead of paying attention to the commands we gave her. She also would become excited beyond return anytime another dog was present. Sometimes she would even do back flips trying to pull towards the other dog. We even had a professional dog trainer come and help us. After a couple hundred dollars of practicing walking in the yard and it going perfectly, we went out on the street. As soon as she saw another dog, she went crazy, as per usual, and the trainer didn't know what to do. We had tried just about every corrective method and she is not food motivated (I'm sure the other dogs loved walking after us with all of the cheese and chicken she would leave behind). So we just stopped trying to walk her. The first time we walked her with this collar, she responded to our commands. We haven't even had to shock her with it yet because she responds to the beeps. Now 95% of the time we don't even have to beep because she listens to our commands. She still gets excited when she sees other dogs, but she mostly sticks to whining, rather than pulling towards them now.We may have had quick results because our dog had already been trained with an in-ground fence collar. Also other training collars probably would have worked, so I can't vouch for this collar over others. I will just give my list of pros and cons.Pros1. Both the remote and collar have rechargeable batteries.2. The collar is easy to put on and remove with a plastic release clip.3. The buttons are easy to use and understand.Cons1. The remote turns off rather quickly if a button hasn't been pressed. So, if you don't need to correct the dog frequently, when you do need to, you have to look at the remote to see if it is on. Then turn it on before correcting.2. The same button that turns it on, switches between the modes. So I do find myself worried that I might accidentally switch to shock mode if I don't check the setting frequently. If the on button were a different button, this would not be a worry. You could, without looking, press the on button (in case the collar had turned off) and be assured that you didn't just switch to shock mode.--Update: 08/03/2017--As she became used to the beep and vibrate, we found that we do have to shock her on occasion (she responds on the lowest setting). Unfortunately the shock feature has stopped working. I am lowering my score based on this.

Effective training collar *~~*~~* Updated Dec. 2016
This unit is very effective for my 1 year old male Siberian Husky (Romeo). We had a terrible problem getting him to respond when we called him. We have a fenced in back yard and he would rather be out there in all kinds of weather, rather than come in. I had him trained as a very small pup to come in when I flashed the porch light and/or clapped my hands four times. That worked well until he got to be around 8 months old and discovered he had a will of his own. However, one day of training with this collar, using only the beeper horn and then the vibrator was enough for Romeo. He hates that vibrator at a setting of around 25 to 30. He hates it so much that when he hears the beeper .. he comes running home because he knows the vibrator is coming next, if he doesn't respond. I have never had to use the static shock feature. Romeo is also a digger. That is our next project but I am confident this Dogedu collar will solve the problem.*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ I am revising my review because the plastic clasp on the collar broke and I have not been able to find a replacement. Everything with the proper width is either shorter or at least the same size. It is tight on his neck as it is. Is there somewhere I can buy a larger collar without it going wider? It still has to fit in the plastic guides on the unit. **** Also is it possible to remove the shock screws? I really don't need them as Romeo still responds best to the horn and the vbrator. Removing the screws would give me the added space that I need.
