Worked great and easy install
I really like this gauge. Reading the reviews others made....yes there is only a light on the top of the gauge but that's where your needle will most likely be most of the time (3krpm). I have no problem seeing the numbers at night with this one light bulb.Other than that it clamped easily to my roll bar. I did do a bit of trimming the the foot of the gauge to make it work a bit better bit it is a durable mount and easy to work with. I wired it right to the tachometer plug on my D.U.I. distributor and had no problems with my Howell EFI.Now with a quick glance I can see if I am at good cruise rpm on ready to scatter the motor insides across the highway.

AutoMeter tachometer.
This is a great tachometer. There is a hole in the back with a potentiometer to adjust for four, six, or eight cylinder engine. It works correctly and the needle doesn't bounch around. The incandescent light at the top is enough light for me. This isn't a racing tach, but it is a great reference tach!

Great product. Very nice quality.
I installed this in my '82 VW Westy and it is a lifesaver. The installation was easy and having a gauge in an air-cooled engine was the first modification I installed to the bus. It's a must have.Works as expected. It is quick, accurate and does the job. Wiring was easy and installation was quick.Like others stated: When the engine is shut off, the needle does not go to 0 until power is applied. Weird but whatever.I do wish they added a small redline needle or something so that there is a visual of maximum RPM's. I've had other tachs with that and it was nice. I simply painted a red line on the glass using a toothpick and model paint and it works fine. I figure the redline in a VW will never change.I also wish the light was a bit better. It's at the top and if the angle is right, you can see the bulb which makes illumination rough. I'm being super picky but I thought I would write about that.

Great little tach for the money
I don't write a lot of reviews, but this was such a good value I had to say something. It's the perfect size to tuck into the corner between the windshield and a-pillar. Although it's not big, it's very clear and easy to read. The styling looks right at home in my '89 Suburban. The installation using the built-in pedestal was simple and straightforward. Why would anyone spend 4x as much for a similar gage?

Great Little Tach
I installed this tach on a 1990 Subaru Legacy motor. It works great and seems accurate. It has a single incandescent backlight at the 3,000 rpm mark. When you turn off the engine it stays at the rpm last measured (usually 800 rpm) until you turn key back into the AUX position. Auto Meter says this is normal and it's not much of a problem, just different than most cars. It installed easily with the 4 wires, it came with screws and double stick tape for mounting. The needle movement is smooth. This is meant to be mounted with the bracket, not inserted into a instrument panel. I would recommend it to someone that doesn't have a tach and just needs the basic information.

Decent tachometer for small moneys
Great tach, easy install, and a nice product that fills a void in the marketplace. This is not too big but not ridiculously small. It only goes to 6000 RPM, which is really all most people need. There were practically zero other 6000 RPM tachometers to choose from. I just want to have a tach to know how fast the engine is going and where it's shifting. I don't need blinking lights and LED readouts or an 11000 RPM range. If I take my pretty-ordinary vehicle to 9000 RPM, I don't need a tach to tell me how fast it's going because it will never spin again, even if I fix the dents in the hood and clean all the oil off the windshield. I dinged this for one star because it can only be mounted above a surface, not below or from the side or an angle. Considering how most gauges are made and how they are housed, there's no excuse for not being able to rotate the housing around the tach. But if you have a surface to mount it on top of -- and most everyone does -- this is a good looking tach that seems to work OK and does not cost very much.

Good Tach Easy Install
I added the picture to illustrate the mount has the slots for column mount with a hose clamp. Yes I wish it had a round version but it mounts solid even on my narrow column. 4 wire hookup is easy. GND, 12V keyed, Coil & lights. The coil wire is plenty long. In fact all the wires are ample lengths.
