I got this for my 2.5 year old and love it! It is do wonderful to have an Indian female protaganist who is so engaging. And the Hindu deity references just make it all the better as I am consistently trying to get her exposed to our religion! I love Bharat babies books and own almost all. I especially love the mirrored ending page on this book. Wonderful for me and my daughter.

the story is GREAT.
Even though this is written by a non-Indian author, which had me suspicious, the story is GREAT.

Adorable little board book and introduction to Hindu gods!
Padmini is so cute. Seriously, so cute. Tim Palin's illustrations just grab you by the heart strings. She is maybe my favorite illustrated children's book character of all time. Her tomboyish, nerdy quirkiness is everything and speaks to my memories of myself growing up in a way that just melts me. I want to hug her on every page. The book is a simple, fun introduction to the different Hindu gods and their characteristics. As someone who is trying to raise culturally and religiously literate children, I love having this and talking to my son about all the different gods and what makes each of them special and what we can learn from them. I hope that these ideas will serve as a foundation for a lifetime of excitement and curiosity learning about cultures, religions and the world. There is also a little mirror at the end where the child can look at themselves and talk about their own positive traits, which is a huge hit here!
