Unsuitable for India. It is 110 volts. Will not work on 220v without transformer
This does not work in India, because it is 110 volts. It needs a bulky transformer.Unsuitable for India. When I complained, the seller wrote to me, claiming that I should go ahead and plug it into 220 volts and that it would work fine.If you plug it in, you will probably fry the charger. In the past, I had gotten a 110 volt version from USA (I live in USA) and tried using it in India. Promptly, it got fried.Upon my return to USA, I contacted Philips, because it was still under warranty and the first question they asked me was "did you travel overseas". They went on to explain that unless specifically marked for 110 to 240 volts, their units would not work overseas. Here is a link to Philips sitehttp://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/cpindex.pl?ctn=HX5610/01&dct=QAD&faqview=1&mid=Link_FAQs&refnr=0071221&scy=US&slg=AEN&view=aa12_view_partial.htmlThe base of the charges says it is only 110 volts 50-60 cycles. If you try to plug this into 220 volts, you will ruin it!

The leak through the head is a major concern, the mould and smell starts to form very soon. Its also hard to clean it because of the design. I am not sure other models have this problem but this is a major concern for me and prompts to change the head often.

Great brush for the money!
So I've had a lot of different "electric toothbrushes" before and they've all been fine. They "did the job" I suppose. This one really turned me around on electric toothbrushes though. First off it just feels powerful when using it on your teeth and it is simply effortless to use. Just turn it on and you don't even have to press very hard on your teeth. Just let it knock all the junk off. I brush my teeth for a minute or so and they just feel so smooth afterwards. My teeth appear much cleaner as well. I highly recommend this product since it cleans so well you'll more than likely save on going to the dentist as less cavities are sure to be a side effect of using this combined with perhaps an air/water pik. I also enjoy that it comes with a traveling bag and seems to hold a charge for quite a bit of brushing.

works well, no issues, don't believe the mold hype
I've been using this for about a year, and I've had no problems with it. People complain about the inside getting gross, but that's because they themselves are gross and don't clean it. Here's the cleaning ritual I have after every brush:1. unscrew the top2. rinse the handle3. place handle on base4. pop off the brush5. rinse the screwy thing and the brush6. pop brush back into the screwy thing7. place the brush onto the handle (don't screw it back on, just place it on top) such that it's tilted, allowing the insides to air outThis whole process takes like 12 seconds and costs about a tenth of a calorie, so don't even worry about it.The other thing people complain about is that this brush doesn't beep every 30 seconds or whatever, but that's also a non-issue. You're unable to brush your teeth if you don't know whether 30 seconds have passed? I don't think so. I think you CAN do it. Just believe in yourself. The unit is solid, very straightforward, and gets the job done. My last dentist visit was significantly better than when I was using a regular brush (of course, YMMV depending on your oral hygiene). It's hard to imagine needing another electric brush. It's also good for traveling; for trips shorter than 2 weeks, you don't even need the base, because the battery lasts about 2 weeks. Lastly, if you have sensitive teeth, you can buy sensitive replacement head assembly thingies (whatever they're called), which I've been using for the past month or so.

Great Electric Toothbrush and a Great Value, too.
I am pretty sure this is the first version of Philips' modern electric toothbrushes. Their brushing system relies on a basically up and down vibration that cleans teeth far better than one can do with a manual brush. From what I've read, this approach easily beats the number two, Oral-B's circular motion device. This is the least expensive version and it works great. In fact, other than their advertising, I'm unaware of any analysis that shows this doesn't work just as well as their newer, slimmed-down versions. I've now had this for 9 years and it's still going strong.
