We LOVE this thing! Tested against 2 other more expensive brands. Hands down better unit.
I ordered 3 noisemakers to compare, and intended to let my girlfriend keep the one she liked best, return one, and I planned to take the 2nd best unit. The other 2 brands advertised as if they were supposed to be superior to the HemmingWeigh. That is not the case AT ALL. I'll explain in the next paragraphs, for those that want details. The comparison and models tested are the next to last paragraph.I got out of the hospital a few weeks ago and have been staying with an older couple, who are truly family to me. They have a HemmingWeigh in the room I am staying in right now. This thing is So much better than running a brown noise app to my Bose bluetooth speaker. My girlfriend came by to visit and see how I was. She had a migraine, and I was also borrowing a Far Infrared Heating pad from the couple that are taking care of me right now. I asked her to try to lay down on the heating pad, and that she shouldn't hear any noises in the house, because of the HemmingWeigh/noisemaker in the room. She loved both, the HemmingWeigh and the heating pad (the heating pad is by "UTK"). She had also been using the same brown noise app as I have, and for years, running wirelessly via Bluetooth to a JBL speaker. So, she was running to a very expensive (for the purpose) JBL, and I was running the app to my Bose. The plus to the HemmingWeigh is never worrying about an app stopping, looping, randomy lowering volume, losing a wireless signal nor having to run a cable across the room directly to a speaker (like I did), and it masks sounds much better than audio or digitally recorded noise. For years I have run a free program that uses "Brown Noise", which is much lower pitched and not so scratchy like "White Noise" software. I had so much money invested in that "free software", because I was running a 3.5mm line directly to a Bose bluetooth speaker, and the reason I paid to wire it to my tablet is so it wouldn't clip and lose signal as often. The app would still drop out multiple times during the night, even wired; it would just stop. Same thing with my girlfriend's app, and she was feeding the audio from an iPad Mini 2, and I use a Samsung Tab S2. The HemmingWeigh is better in every way compared to an app, better than an old fan based noisemaker my Mother kept running under my bed when I was a kid (25 years ago, same concept), and better than 2 other models I tested it against. The 2 models I tested the HemmingWeigh against, advertised as if they were superior, and they were expensive in comparison, along with sketchy reviews. One is a "WITTI DOZZI", and the other was a "PICTEK". I saw glowing reviews for the PICTEK, and it got sketchier when I asked "Does the motor hum and make noise on this device as badly as other units that use a fan & motor?". I recieved 3 responses from supposed Amazon customers, and at the most random times. I don't even get responses like that for a high end projector. The first response was around 1AM, then 4 or 5AM, and then a bit after 7AM; all in the same day, no further responses afterward. It made absolutely no sense. That has never happened to me. I figured "Well, Amazon accepts returns if something isn't functioning properly - Ill give it a shot". Against the responses I recieved about the PICTEK, it does have motor noise, my girlfriend can't stand it, and neither can I. My girlfriend said "It doesn't sound like it would last a week. It didn't sound steady, it sounded like it couldn't keep the speed constant. Sounded more whiny". I agree with her, and the thing (currently) costs approximately 40% more (40.016%, to be exact). So, it went back. Sketchy responses, higher price, unrealistic advertising, BUT much better than the "DOZI". NEXT...Next, we tried the "WITTI DOZI". It is approximately double the price of the HemmingWeigh, and it was worse than the PICTEK. Firstly, it had rust on the metal grille that sits above the fan, and it could not be wiped off... The buttons to adjust it are cheap, clunky, and inferior to to the the HemmingWeigh or the PICTEK. The DOZI had the worst sound, least adjustability of all 3 units, and again, the thing is double the price of the HemmingWeigh. Both other brands had less ratings, but somehow, better ratings. The DOZI had 5 reviews. Anyhow, the other, more expensive units are being returned. Neither of us liked them, but I'll be fair and say the PICTEK is definitely a better and much more adjustable model than the DOZI. The HemmingWeigh at my friend's home has been here for years, and it is still running. I am ordering a second one to have for myself. I let my girlfriend choose between it and the PICTEK, and both of us like the HemmingWeigh better - this old one next to me, and the brand new one (old motor vs new motor HemmingWeigh, they still easily beat the more expensive models). The next time I'm admitted to the hospital (yes, I have horrible health problems...) I should actually be able to sleep with the HemmingWeigh running, even though it often sounds like the nurses are literally having a party in the hospital while stroke patients and patients as ill as myself try to rest, all the while being expected to get better with absolutely no sleep. Hospital workers and staff, please, either be polite and only wake a patient up the 15-20 times a day you come busting up in the room to check vitals, swap fluids etc., or Please get the hospital to invest in some sort of white noise fan based machines. You can put someone on a feeding tube or TPN all day long, but no one is getting well if they're completely sleep deprived.P. S. I will be recommending the HemmingWeigh to anyone that doesn't want to be disturbed in their sleep, and am planning to get more as Christmas gifts (what better gift to give to someone than sleep which results in a better mood, better health and more energy?). I wish hospitals would test the idea of implementing these devices (any noise masking device) to keep patients from such sleep deprivation caused by the disrespect of hospital staff that are laughing at the top of their lungs at night, and sounding like a cage fight is going on in the supply rooms, plus sounding like there is a competition for who can slam a door the loudest (it's funny, but not funny at all...). Perhaps put one in every room on one floor of the hospital for 3 months and see how much faster the patients on that level are able to be discharged vs the ones that have no ability to mask the noise in the halls. Sleep can mean Everything when it comes to whether or not a sick patient recovers quickly.

Real sleep again
Having a small animal that runs on his wheel at night has been a nightmare. I wanted an analog sound machine and found this one with usb ports and a light. It works perfectly after close to a year of owning it. The night light is not blinding bright which I appreciate and the adjustable levels of sound really works. There are two settings, low and high. When I set my machine to "low" the sound starts out pretty quiet but seems to get louder as the night goes on. When I set to high it can really get noisy. If I open the vent all the way on high I would have to raise my voice to speak to my partner in bed, and I definitely wouldn't be able to hear anything else in the house; doors or windows opening, car alarms (maybe), dogs barking, cars driving on the shoulder bumps on the freeway nearby etc. But with such a flexible way to adjust sound levels of the machine, you should be able to find your "sweet spot" that will block out the noises you don't want while not interrupting the natural experience of the bedroom at night.

Quality device with excellent features!
This product is amazing, especially for the price. My intention was to find a white noise machine to eliminate noisy distractions in the spa that I work in. I'm a massage therapist and this machine has honestly been a game-changer! The small, compact design fits under the treatment table perfectly and creates the most soothing environment. I've noticed that my clients relax/zone-out SO much faster than previously (w/o the white noise machine). Therefore, if you're looking for a device to help you or your child sleep at night, I would definitely recommend this machine! The "white noise" is very soothing and mimics the natural sounds of rushing air/ocean waves...and the intensity can be adjusted. This machine is super simple to operate :) The switch on the left is the on/off switch for the night light- which is really neat feature! The light is neither too bright nor too dim, it's perfect really. I've kept the light off but I could imagine it being useful when placed in an infant or child's bedroom. The switch on the right affects the sound (I believe)- which can be further adjusted by twisting the top part of the device. The two USB ports are ideal, especially for spaces that have minimal outlets (e.g., night time phone charging). Overall, I'm VERY pleased with this purchase and would absolutely recommend it for a variety of uses!

Loud, great for drowning out other sounds
The item is well built with heft, and seems like it can last a long time. The unit is quite loud, and could probably provide white noise to a 1000 sqft room on its highest setting. In my bedroom I have to set it on low speed with its aperture nearly closed all the way in order to get the right sound level, because even on the low fan speed its a bit fast. The pitch of the sound changes until the aperture is about 15% open. After that the pitch is the same and only the volume changes. The fan also has a 'warm up' period, so you don't get the full power coming in until its been on for a minute or two.The sound itself has a slightly...industrial quality to it, without wetness. It's still a pleasing pink noise. It sounds closer to white noise when the fan is on full blast and the aperture is open. Excellent for drowning out other noises, but if you are looking for a sleep-aid device then be aware that this thing may be louder than the desk fan/AC/humidifier that you are used to. This is probably a 5-star product for people who live in cities and would like to drown out the noise of traffic outside. The USB ports are a great feature for plugging your phone in at night. The night light feature is a bit pointless in my opinion, especially because its a harsh white light with lots of blue in it, so it's not really ideal as a 'night light' to leave on while sleeping.
