KB ELECTRONICS9533, KBMA-24D, 1HP, 1-Phase, 110-120V;200-240V (Input), 3-Phase, 240V (Output) - (for Use With 3-Phase Motor) Nema 1 Enclosure, Variable Frequency Drives

Purchased to run the original 3-phase 1HP motor on my Bridgeport J-Head milling machine. Though I have a pretty decent grasp on the subject of electricity, I'm not the most competent when it comes to the practical; despite this, the instructions helped guide me through the process with ease and it does work incredibly well and I simply use a laser tachometer to establish the spindle speed.My only concern is that it does tend to heat up very quickly with use at the top of the unit, with no apparant heat-sink hardware to facilitate cooling (though I aim to build a heat sink to fit between the box and the mount that I made, for the sake of heat dissipation)In addition, I purchased the separate forward/reverse switch (irritating to wait for as it is not available through prime shipping), which again, was very easy to fit and allows switching of the mill's spindle; bearing in mind that in high speed, the switch makes it so that reverse becomes forwardOverall, this unit is ideal for providing 3-phase power to the small home workshop, and I plan to purchase another in time for other applications; I only wish they were available for motors with greater power outputsMy mount (as pictured), was rigged up using an old TV mount that I modified to suit the purpose and some steel angle, it was then fixed to the base of the machine by drilling and tapping a few 5/16" holes

Found a 1952 Baldor 8" 3 phase 1725 RPM bench grinder on craigslist.Wirebrushed and painted it. Added the KB electronics variable speed controland plugged it into my table saw 220V outlet.It now works like a DC variable speed motor, but you cannot hear it run.Adjustment for start up and run down time works perfectly.It's a 1/2 hp motor, so I added two 5A quick blow fuses on the input line.I cannot believe how well the grinder and control work together. I may sell all myother grinders and keep only this one for wire brushing , polishing and grinding.The company also has good customer support and fast shipping. I recommendit to all I know. A 3450 RPM single speed grinder is only good for grinding, not polishingor wire brushing. I can also double the speed with a jumper setting, but will not.

I had been using a 220 volt rotary phase converter prior to buying this item, and just wanted a basic 1 to 3 phase converter that did not need a lot of programming setup.The fact that this is 110 volt input and 220 volt output was a winner for me as I wanted to move machine and did not have 220 volts at new location.I did add the For/Stop/Rev switch so now my original switch on the Bridgeport is left in the forward position and I use this to control everything.When removing cover to set up switches, I found that it was difficult to get cover to slide off. Had to pry off with small screwdriver and was able to do so without damaging paint (powder coating?).As I said, this is easy to set up, and wiring was real basic. Would recommend this to all.

The media could not be loaded. Great product honestly. It's cheaper than having a phase converter always running in your shop. I installed one on my Bridgeport j head mill a year and a half ago and I haven't had a issue, even with taking deeper cuts than I probably should have. I also have one installed on my recent acquired walker turner bandsaw, and it works great!I know people complain about the forward/reverse switch that doesn't come standard. I wired my OEM Bridgeport switch to the box so I have forward/reverse.

I saved myself some money by not buying the Nema 4 enclosure as this is being used on an indoor 2x72 belt grinder and the nema 1 is dust resistant and that should be sufficient. The instructions were easy to follow and made sure that you paid attention to what could happen if you didn't select the proper jumpers based on your input voltage and type of motor. Installation/setup took me around 30 minutes to complete, the only change I made was selecting the rpm x2 jumper as it appeared that my motor was not achieving sufficient rpm's the grind steel. So far so good, I've ground my first knife using the x2 rpm setting and my motor seems to working properly. Will update my review if anything changes.

Works well for what its intended for. I originally got this for a 3 phase 1hp Bridgeport mill but I looked it up and these kind of converters only start the engine on 3 phase then switch to single phase to run it. single phase will only give you 2/3 of the hp that 3 phase will on a 3 phase motor, so I am going to buy a rotary phase converter instead its more expensive but i think its worth it for what I'm thinking of doing.

Tied to a 1 hp (3600rpm) and sheaved for max lathe spindle speed around 1200rpm. Added reverse switch and remote start button, works great. I also purchased the same tied to a 3/4hp (3600rpm) for mill with max spindle speed around 1800rpm. With some creative thought and pulley combinations both work great.

I have VFDs on some of my other 3-phase shop tools. They were a paid to install and program. This is so much easier to install and use if you don't need a lot of complicated motor control parameters. You can choose between 120 or 240v single phase input. Installed this on my 3/4 HP Delta Rockwell 15-655 drill press. Bonus was being able to wire the mounted retirement light (work light( on the same 120V AC line as the KBMA drive. I wish they made these up to 3 HP.
