Dimming Lights to a Whole New Level
The media could not be loaded. I don’t recall writing a review or not, but this is for the Leviton DW3HL-1BW plug-in dimmer with Wi-Fi Technology. I bought approximately ten last year for Christmas lighting automation, dimming, and flexibility. I did not want to go through learning any convoluted learning curve for something relatively simple I wanted to achieve. This product achieved a seamless and relatively easy setup.Based on my professional opinion installing home theaters, IT network and infrastructures, and automation as a professional field technician, I can say with confidence that this product performance exceeds my expectation.Setup: Set up was a bit tricky at first, but once I got about three programmed on my network, everything was a breeze. I recommend reading the instructions in full details first before installing — I have learned that reading and understanding the manual from start to finish gives you a solid foundation on proper steps and procedures. There is one area for the setup procedure I have learned was a bit unclear and could have been written better; it has to do with your phone recognizing the plug-in’s MAC address as a “wireless network” as your phone would show “no wireless network” during discovering the product’s MAC address. The next critical step is to open your settings on your phone and to connect to the Leviton’s plug-in dimmer MAC address as the new “wireless network”. After you connect, return back to the Leviton app you downloaded to complete the setup.I have created a spreadsheet for their device names and serial numbers for each device and each device’s room location — believe me, this will save you a world of headache trying to remember what is placed where.Room Location and Configuration: I written down each room for where each plug-ins will be installed. For example, for the Family Room, I have two plug-ins named as “FAM RM Fire Place L” and “FAM RM Fire Place R” (since I have two mini Christmas trees on both left and right sides of the fireplace for their respective electrical outlets). I also labeled the other room as Dining Room. For each device, I have them labeled and identified on the app as Dining RM L-Bay Window and Dining RM-R Bay Window. The latest version of the My Leviton app is 2.1.00 as the time of this writing. This new version is more robust and the GUI is surprisingly very simple. Thank you, Leviton. As with other home auto programs, Leviton is not going anywhere as compared to IRIS. Leviton is a major industry leader in consumer and commercial electrical products. Your investment won’t be thrown out the window like Lowe’s IRIS version. This product works with Google Assistant, Alexa, and August. I love Google Assistant. I have it programmed into my Google Hub (now called Nest Hub). It is very convenient and easy for me to change the lighting scheme by saying: “Hey Google! Dim all lights to 50%.”Attached are some photos and a short video. Also note: I will be updating my wireless network. Your regular wireless router can only perform so much — this is the reason why you should consider installing a WAP. Since my wireless network has approximately over 50 devices, you can imagine the router working overtime on handling DHCPs and other products fighting for priorities. But if you have about 10 devices on your network, you should be okay.

Leviton Beats TP-Link and iDevices Hands Down
This is a repost of a review I left for TP-Link and iDevices products that were subsequently returned and replaced with Leviton products. See conclusion at the end with respect to the Leviton products (both plugs and switches). They therefore earn five stars.Original review of iDevices products after having the same issues with TP-Link products both of which were returned:I cannot believe how unreliable these iDevices plugs are. I have a good wifi network based on Ubiquiti hardware with good signal strength - and its only a small single level house. These switches constantly drop out and the iPhone app loses connection with them. As I am also using Alexa, it also loses connection. This makes them (I had six) next to useless. When you ask Alexa to turn the lights on or a light group on, it more often than not fails. When you look at the iDevices app on the iPhone, you see the purple ring going round and then the white double headed arrow circle - meaning the connection has gone and the app cannot find the switch. So you cannot turn the switch on or off from the app as well as not being able to do it with Alexa. I am a technical guy and have reinstalled them four times and also used two different wifi access points. Nothing makes it any better. I have also tried setting the wifi channels to fixed rather than auto and have tried each of the three non-overlapping channels. Also to no avail. I have a small Android box that controls a Broadlink IR sender which is paired Alexa and it works just fine for turning the TV on and off etc. I also have a Leviton dimmer switch paired with Alexa and it also works every time without a problem. So the answer, regrettably and frustratingly, is going to be to send them back to Amazon and perhaps buy the Leviton switches instead - if their dimmer switch works well as it appears to maybe their plug-In lamp dimming module switches will also.UPDATE: The iDevices switches were returned and I ordered the Leviton 1BW dimming switches. They connected easily to the wifi network and have worked flawlessly since - with the added benefit that these are also dimmers which the returned TP-Link and iDevices switches that both kept disconnecting from wifi were not. Time will tell I guess but so far so good - the Leviton switches are still working whereas both the TP-Link and iDevices switches by this time were frustratingly dropping all the time.UPDATE 2: The Leviton dimming plugs (four of them) and dimming switches (three of them) have now been operating flawlessly for over a month. No drop outs, no losing connection with either the iPhone app or Alexa, no having to reconnect them every couple of days. They have "just worked". In addition, we had a power cut and when the power came back on they automatically reconnected and again worked without issue. Congratulations to Leviton for making a product that does what it says and does it consistently. Highly recommended and I will be buying more. So definitely 5 stars.
