what is the minimum and maximum rope length for each side?

Maximum length is approx 1800mm and it will adjust to approximately half that length. Some comments are that this is not adjustable but it is very easily. Have a look on you tube how to. This is a really good heavy duty product.

Does this pinch the hips when using as an adult? I'm a size 12/14

It does pinch mine, but I’m currently a size 16. My husband says the swing is fine for him.

How do adjust the rope length?

I agree with the other comments. You would only fix the figure-of-8 like the picture if you want to hang the swing with the complete length of rope, not if you want to adjust the swing. Putting the two metal fixtures with bolts on the seat is made easier with a socket set: I used an 11/16" socket (AF set) underneath, though a 17mm spanner was good for the nut on top. The ropes go through the two metal fixtures. As Claire says, then you put a hoop of rope through the figure-of-8, which is what allows you to adjust it. The round metal loop is what hangs from the frame. The swing is now working nicely hanging from a TP wooden frame.

Is this adequate size for an adult?

The swing is of an extremely solid construction and will easily support even a heavy adult. However, this is limited by the width of seat which is 15” (38cm) between fittings i.e. medium size bottoms max!
