Love this film
This is a lovely film, and you get a first glimpse of Jimmy Harkeshin too. Which is a treat.

having grown up in a culturally segregated country and having the immense good fortune of having both Hindu and Muslim friends a
I have to admit to loving films about the Indian culture, having grown up in a culturally segregated country and having the immense good fortune of having both Hindu and Muslim friends and always wanting my curiosity of how the others live revealed. So being able to watch a story about the lives of different people interacting is always an eye opener for me, as does this film. Not having a happy ending for every character, is what teaches me about the trueness of life and this film does so. It is not easy watching racial intolerance, it serves to remind me that we are no different from one another - the scene where the elderly Indian lady sees a black family on the beach and checks to see if her handbag is safe...Just how many do not use any integrity when dealing with people we do not understand or chose to vilify, through our own ignorance is too large a number. Watch the film, ask polite questions, find out before judging...

A moment in time
A sweet tale of love, race and redemption. It beautifully encapsulates the racial dynamics of the early 90s, and is a window into the Indian communities wrestling with the assimilation and dilution of their culture, through marriage and their children. Low budget, and creaky acting and direction in places, but a wonderful script and a nice ending...

Brings back memories
I watched this once when I was a teenager in the 1990’s. I absolutely loved it but never saw it again until the new year when I watched it on amazon prime. It’s just as funny now as it was back when I was a teenager so I had to buy it.The dvd arrived well within time and before the date I was advised it would arrive. I am so thrilled. Thanks x

A bit of history
I wanted to watch this film as it is a bit of cultural history. I am glad I did, however the acting was terrible!!! The script was full of cultural rants, which was fascinating and seemed to be written more for the stage than the big screen. All this being said, I am still glad I own it and watched it, as this was the pre cursor to such films as East is East. It is one of the most open inter racial/cultural portrayals of it's time and certainly one of the biggest post watching conversation starting films I have seen in a long time!

Light-hearted but telling
A little known movie that paints a fascinating picture of what it's like to be a second- or third- generation immigrant living in the UK: are you British or are you Indian? The film is light-hearted but telling. I especially love the part that shows how a woman still living in India is more broad-minded that those living in Britain, who think they are still upholding traditional Indian values. And a classic scene is a group of people on a bus, going to Blackpool for the day, all singing "Summer Holiday" in Hindi.

Love it to death..
I saw this years and years back at a film festival and every repeat watch bring forth the same joy, sadness and ultimate hopefulness. The cast is so natural, that it is clearly evident that they were having a picnic, while making thisand Zohra Seghal alone is reason to watch this a hunderd times. It's one of my fave movies of all time and is perhaps Gurinder's best work

superbe!

interesting
this film looks a little bit outdated but is still interesting. It shows the contradictions of indian families living in the UK and the shock of the parents in seeing their kids embracing the foreign culture.

My video library may be small...
and it only contains films I want to share with friends. Well done movies like this put me in them and Indian culture is particularly fascinating to me. I found it's humor sophisticated but not too. Overall it was unforgetable and I always smile when I think of Bhaji on the Beach.

Integration in England
