Inspires life with Jesus in the midst of normal life
I slowly am working my way through her writings/journal entries. I appreciate her desires and devotions while living a non-secluded life. I have similar desires and loves tho different hardships and I find her words deeply inspiring and encouraging to stay the course. While it would have been nice to read her experience in the context of children, that was not her path and even just reading her applications of spiritual truth and devotion while married, caring for family, etc helps my focus and devotion.

Wonderful Translation of an Engrossing Spiritual Journal
Dr. Ruffing has done a wonderful job of translating Elisabeth's writing into contemporary English without sacrificing any of the grace or eloquence of the original work. Elisabeth Leseur's life, captured so poignantly in her personal journals, continues to resonate in the modern world. Her words offer strength, consolation and hope for us all.

Leseur's love of God and others pierces my heart
Leseur's love of God and others pierces my heart, lighting a way through our own times, so like her own. Her beautiful embrace of suffering is the first I've ever read that draws me.

Disappointing
I agree with the other review. This is really a biography and only has snippets of Elizabeth's writings. The title is deceiving.

NOT A REVIEW PER SE
THIS IS NOT A REVIEW OF THE BOOK...JUST A COMMENT AND A SUGGESTION TO AMAZON: when people go to 'look inside' a book at your site, they want to see what the AUTHOR has written, not comments about the book. I wanted to see the writing of Elizabeth Leseur, not someone writing about her...but all that is shown are comments about her in the introductions, comments about the letters she wrote, comments about comments...this is utterly useless to one who is considering buying a book. This happens in other books too...if you say 'look inside' please consider the fact that one looks inside a book to see the author's writing - in order to be able to discern if the style and content is what one would appreciate...please, show the author's writing, not the writing of those writing about the author...thanks

The book is absolutely filled with her wonderful journal entries
I do not understand why the others who commented on this book believed they were not reading Leseur's writings! The book is absolutely filled with her wonderful journal entries, letters and book of resolutions. In fact, I ordered the Cahier de Resolutions on Amazon's French website, and have discovered that the translation in the Western Classics book is very well done. Also, I want to say that one of the reasons I accessed Leseur in the first place was because the greatly-admired devotional Magnificat uses quotes from her writings from time to time. Bishop Sheen admired her greatly, as well. She was a woman who learned, with much grace and graciousness, to live a life of active love for her atheist husband, unbelieving upper class social group, and beloved extended family.

Spiritual R.C. reading
This is a very well written account of a French married woman who is not well known. Excellently set out with a lot of information relevant to her life in France before the first World War. To be read slowly and thoughtfully.
