Delicious and great for the office
The chilimac is delicious and quick and easy to prepare. I have them in the office for lunch - I get some hot water from the coffee maker, pour it in the bag, wait 10 minutes, cut a few inches off the top and there's my lunch in its own bowl. The chilimac is tasty, organic, quick and no-waste. Perfect for when you want something complex and not boring at your desk for lunch. If you like the chilimac, you will probably like the buttery herb pasta too.

Great tasting vegetarian meal
As a vegetarian, I'm always looking for a good-tasting dehydrated meal. It is so hard to find one that also has a good amount of protein. My search is over since I've found Mary James Farm meals. The Chilimac is one of my favorite. And it tastes good even if you're not a vegetarian!

New recipe, not as good as the old stuff.
This used to be my favorite backpacking food, but they changed the recipe in the last year or so (as evidenced by the ingredient list). The new stuff just doesn't taste nearly as good. Bummer!

Best tasting cook-in-bag food
I have eating a lot of dehydrated and freeze-dried food.In an effort to pack lighter and keep cooking simple, I now only use food that can be re-hydrated in its own bag so that I don't have any dirty dishes to clean. This product fits that requirement (add boiling water, wait 9-minutes, eat.) As a side note, at higher altitudes water cannot get terribly hot, so I've found it can still be a bit crunchy after 9 minutes at 11,000 feet. But that is not unique to this product.Mary Janes Chilimac also tastes great. Of course anyone who backpacks knows that food always tastes better in the woods than at home, but this dish is tasty enough to eat at home. This is now the only dinner I pack. I do carry some fiery hot sauce to spice it up a bit, and some additional salt. I feel the food needs the salt for flavor, and am not worried about the additional sodium after a long day of sweating.I also like the packaging, which is plastic-lined paper, and will stand upright while rehydrating. Then tear off the top few inches and eat from the bag. While I am a little concerned that some endocrine-interrupting petro-chemicals may be leaching from the plastic lining into my food during the 9-minute hydration process, this packaging is less landfill-impacting than most backpacking food. (That's when I focus on the fact that my water boiled at only 190 degrees, so the leaching is probably not *that* bad...) The packaging advertises that it can be burned instead of packed out, but because it is plastic-lined I think that's a terrible idea.My only serious complaint is that the serving size is not large enough. In terms of calories it is not sufficient for a dinner after miles of backpacking. And, in terms of satiety, it also falls short. I need to supplement one of these with additional food, which adds both weight and cost.Taste: 5-StarsServing Size: 3-StarsTotal/average: 4-Stars

Good hiking food
My vegetarian kids loved this on a recent back country hike. It's the first time we've tried this brand and were very pleased with the taste and quality.

Not sure how it can taste so good
This is my absolute favorite backpacking meal. I take at least one bag on every trip. I've tried other meals by MaryJanesFarm and most of the others are bland. Even if you're not vegetarian, you'll enjoy this, it's that good.
