Your dvd player should play where it stopped. It wont go back to the start

Q: Can you use it in the house plug socket?

Yes.......BUT is strongly advise that you dont buy this product by Bush. I have had 4 different machines and they all whined or crackled when playing a disc.

Q: Is there any way to use a chromecast with it eg usb to hdmi adapter? I have one of these products and can plug a usb into it and it will display.

Well all I can say is if you can do that and it works then Wots the problem just use it I have one and it is fine
