Talking Heads: The Vent Haven Portraits

There is something eerily compelling about these actual sized color photos of vintage ventriloquist figures. Not much text--only a forward, really, but still, there is something about it that draws you to it and keeps you coming back to stare at the images and notice subtle things about each figure.My only complaint was in the printing of the copy I purchased--there was an ink smudge or off-registration that marred a small number of the pictures. But that aside, I found it to be a great book.

Deliciously captivating photographs of ventriloquists' better halves justified my impulse purchase. I didn't really know what I was getting. But what was delivered is a book that holds up a mirror to our imaginations. And we see faces that are funny or sad or grotesque in equal measure. They watch us as we look at them. I can get my arms around this book. A perfect companion for an engaging afternoon.

There are no art books or photography books that compare to this book of portraits. I would say that all of these dummies have souls after looking into their eyes. The editorial in the book is very thoughtful and informative too. A really great book for gift giving, original and beautiful.

Totally ENJOYABLE. In every single way. Talking Heads is a book I'm still talking about when the discourse over drinks turns to books.

Beautiful portraits of a very interesting subject. These dolls were created as an extension of a person and these photos capture their sometimes eery personality, beautifully.

It's a wonderfull book and I like it. But we haven't the names of the dummies and it's a real shame.
