Q: if I wanted to use these envelopes for regular folded greeting cards what size paper would I use?

5 1/2 x 4 1/4 -- A2 size. You can fold an 8 1/2 x 11 typing paper in fourths to get that size. This and several other brands, however, are too close on the 4 3/8" side for cards that are decorated with embellishments. An A2 envelope from Michael's or another hobby store is 4.6" -- nearly 4 5/8" -- to accommodate the extra thickness of decorated greeting cards.
