does this come with any of the 'status' or tracking cards included in the 'red' starter set?

The red starter (the first box) used cards to track status. The new (blue) starter replaces these cards with tokens. The tokens are a lot more convenient to use.

What the diff rents between this start kit and the old one except the new cards?

Call of the Archons: - 2x standard starting decks - 2x unique decks - Power and stun statuses represented by cards Age of Ascension: - 2x unique decks (missing the standard starting decks) - Power and stun statuses represented by tokens Basically, you're losing the two standard decks and switching out some cards for tokens. An overall improvement I think.
