I have gotten the best results rolling my hair at night before bed then unrolling in the morning. The longer you keep them in, the better the results.

Are they pillow soft or do they feel like regular flexi rods with a firm feel but just has a satin slip on them?

They are pillow soft. The satin slip on them makes it hard to keep in your hair.
