Incredibly effective and quiet - a must have for pet owners, apartment dwellers, or people who cook
I love this product. It works, it makes my apartment smell cleaner and more fresh, and it makes the air feel more clean. It's incredibly quiet. Pros and Cons:Pros:- It works really well. My apartment smells much better. As a dog owner, this is a must-have.- I moved it to my kitchen after cooking some food that got smoky -- I turned it to max mode, and it cleaned up the cooking smells and smoke within minutes. It actually smelled more like cooking smells in other rooms than in my kitchen, after a few minutes in the kitchen. I wish I had more than one of these units.- Adjustable -- it has an auto-mode, silent mode, max mode- It's quiet. I can sleep with it on silent mode and sometimes auto-mode. I'm usually not able to sleep with devices that make any sound -- I have no issues with this machine. Silent mode is virtually silent. There's no 'hum' -- you only hear a quiet whisper of the air coming out of the top when it's on its lower settings.- It really senses the particles in the air. You'll notice this number go up if you bring it near the kitchen, for example. Then you'll notice the number go back down as it cleans the air- The lights adjust brightness automatically depending on the ambient lighting in the room. If your room is bright, the lights get brighter. At night / in the dark, the lights dim so they don't keep you up if you're in your room. The numbers also turn off when the lights dim.- It's lightweight -- it's very easy to pick up and move from room to room. There's handles on the side which make this easier- It has a timer mode. I haven't tried this because I keep this thing running 24/7- It doesn't get hot -- the machine does not give off excess heat/energy when running- It doesn't smell like chemicals- The air blows out of the top of the machine -- I personally prefer this because I do not like fans blowing on me during winter.- The filters (there are two types of filters inside this unit) were very easy and quick to installCons:- It's a little bit large, but it's easy to carry. There were no color options, and it might not be everyone's favorite aesthetic- The programmed sound it makes when you plug it in or turn it on is insanely loud. No idea what the manufacturers were thinking with this one. It's a quick annoyance, and it won't happen in the middle of the night if you've already turned it on. I wish there were a way to disable this little chime. I hate turning it on late a night because I'm worried my apartment neighbors will hear it. This isn't a dealbreaker, just definitely something that's really annoying for an otherwise nearly perfect product

How to test AQI sensor
I have had this for a few days and am happy with its performance. Reading a lot of one star reviews I was concerned about the AQI sensor not reading accurately. I’m outside of Chicago and the air has been very bad this summer from wildfires, would rather have bad air than the heat in the south west. First day the sensor was 002 all day. Over the weekend had a smoker over and with each puff I kept glancing at the numbers rising. Before long the air cranked up, once the number hit 400, I assume it was on high as you could hear it really blowing. I never realized how bad even a few minutes of second hand smoke pollutes the air. This machine had the numbers dropping fairly rapidly. Within half hour it was in the low hundreds and back to 002 around an hour. Naturally, we had to see it all happen again, and again it cleared the air quickly. The smoke was not being blown at the machine and person was about 12’ away.I had basically took it out of the box, checked that the filters were there and new (ATTENTION: the filters are new and in plastic that you have to remove), plugged it in and pressed on. I’ve left it running as my windows are leaky since I would cough all day inside with bad air days on top of allergies. Don’t know if off and on would shorten the life like some have claimed. I have an older air cleaner that couldn’t really remove PM2 and that one had no problem being used just at night.Another feature I noticed is that the air blows out the top. It seems to spread around the room better than the front blowing types. Plus I don’t get complaints of someone getting too cold because air is blowing on them and be forced to turn it off. Overall so far works well, and hope it lasts at least a decade as my old less efficient model.

Tested with FLUKE 985 Airborne Particle Counter
I am super sensitive to smells and other airborne particles so I purchased the Bissell air400 for my office. I have been running the filter for about 2-3 months now and noticed the air quality was much better, but curiosity hit and I wanted to know JUST how much better it actually was!I used my FLUKE 985 meter and an office in the same building, on the same air return, separated by a secretarial office had a reading of 33,186 particulates at 0.3microns. The air from the filter was showing a reading of ONLY 258 particulates of 0.3 microns at medium setting making the office with the running Bissell air400 give a reading of 16,267 particulates at 0.3 microns. This is a reading with the office door open as well, so if door was closed, I have ZERO doubt the reading in the room with the filter would be significantly lower than half the non filtered room. What does all this mean? The filter actually works and HEAVILY reduces particulates in the air even on a 0.3 micron level!Breath easy my friends...UPDATE: I closed the door to my office, put the Bissell air400 on high and let run overnight. Air quality tested in room WITHOUT the Bissell air400 was around same as prior days reading. Air quality in office now with door closed overnight and filter running on high showed a reading of 1,686 particulates at 0.3microns. I could tell the filter was working, but did not know just how well until I was able to actually test it myself!I am not with Bissell nor paid by Bissell. I do not get ANYTHING from this review. As the owner of an FDA drug manufacturing facility, I had access to this testing meter we use for air quality checks and thought it would be a good show of proof that the filter works. I just did not expect that the filter would work THIS WELL!!!
