Has anyone used this bag for overseas travel as A-day bag and found it useful?

I carry this bag with me everywhere I go it is very useful I carry my pills, wallet, nintendo switch, extra batteries , extra glasses, some snacks, extra pens, wet wipes, headphones, sunglasses, deodorant, cologne, and have lots of room left over I just strap it over on my back and off I go , i dont feel right unless i have it on me... great buy and very good quality ... I'm actually going to buy another one as a gift to someone that said that it looks cool and is very convenient....

will the mesh pocket actualy hold a water bottle?

Yes! I’ve been carrying this bag everyday for 9 months now and it is still in great shape! No rips, no tears, no scuffs, and I’m carrying at least 10lbs in it. The mesh pocket carries a normal size 16oz bottle.

Waterproof, no. Water resistant, yes. Like any other 2000 denier canvas.
