Amazing! Saved my damaged 4C hair.
This steamer is EVERYTHING! I've been using it every week for nearly three months. I've been natural since 2011 and I have thick 4C hair. I have never used a steamer. Since my hair has always been pretty healthy, I've never really "needed" one. After damaging my hair back in January 2018, I've begun a regular deep conditioning routine. This steamer took that routine to the next level.About the product: This steamer was very affordable for a professional grade steamer on a stand with wheels. It is great quality, well-made and gets very hot. The steam is plentiful. The hood is large. My hair is thick and huge but I've never had a problem easily fitting all of it inside the hood. It evenly distributes the steam. The front of your hair, the very back and everything in between gets steamed. The setup instructions were trash, but it only had a few parts and was pretty self-explanatory if you look at the picture on the box. The pole is adjustable and the unit is pretty compact. It takes up about as much space as a standing floor lamp.Other reviewer concerns and hacks: Before ordering, I read reviews about it dripping on the floor and the water container not having a "fill line". It may have been recently redesigned but mine has a fill line (pictures attached). Mine doesn't drip on the floor but I always place a big towel under it just in case. If you overfill the water, it will boil over and drip on your floor. If you use the max fill line, it won't. You can twist and detach the water container to fill it or you can use a cup to pour water into a hole that feeds into the water container (pictures attached). Filling to the line usually gives you about 30 mins of steam. You can easily pour more water in as it boils out if you need a longer treatment. I do 40 mins.FYI: There is a large lip around the hood that should catch most droplets. What I have noticed is, I get a warm droplet on my forehead around 32 mins. So at 30 mins, I raise the hood and take a small towel to quickly wipe the inside dry then get back under it. Voila! You don't have to turn it off to do this. I also always leave the hood vents slightly open (not even half way). There is so much steam that if you are under there at full blast for 30 mins without cracked vents, you're bound to get a few warm droplets on you. VERY IMPORTANT: It includes a small plastic tube and overflow container. You attach the tube to a hole at the base of the hood. You then feed it into the overflow container (pictures attached). When you lift the hood to get out, any accumlated water inside the hood lip runs into that tube and into the overflow container. If the tube is not attached, hot water will come out of the hole and run down your back (which is probably how the other reviewer got burned). The container fills very slowly, so it won't overflow unless you're under there for well over an hour. In fact, I even steam my 5 year old's low-porosity, thick 4c hair once per month for 25 mins (picture attached). She's likes it. I'm a helicopter parent so if I trust it on her, it's legit. My routine: I use regular tap water in my steamer. I do a quick wash or co-wash in the shower weekly. I slightly towel dry. Then I slather my hair evenly with JBCO, olive oil and an old Shea Moisture superfruit hair masque. I place a large towel over my neck and shoulders. The steamer takes about 8 mins to warm up and begin steaming. I then set the timer for 40 mins and fill the water slightly above the fill line. Once I finish steaming, I lightly rinse my hair and begin detangling with Cantu Shea Butter leave in cream and Kinky Curly Knot Today. I place it in two strand twists and wear those for the week. I usually pull the twists back into a ponytail and apply my faux afro puff on top (as a protective style). My hair damage story: I gave birth in October 2017. Afterwards my hair felt different (like there was a film on it). I decided to do an ACV (applie cider vinegar) rinse for the first time in January 2018. I didn't dilute it enough AND left it on too long. It completely stripped my hair of all moisture and made it dry, crunchy and matted. I literally could not detangle it, which has never happened. I couldn't believe it!!!! I'm pretty experienced with hair as 1/2 of my family are licensed cosmetologists, including my MOM. I grew up in the salon. Still, I had the ACV incident. Afterwards, every oil or product I put on it would just "sit" on top of my hair. Nothing would absorb or penetrate it so I couldn't get the moisture back into it. My curl pattern was gone, my texture was shot and it was just a dry, dead mess. It was a completely different head of hair. I thought I'd have to do another big chop. In March 2018 my mom was scheduled to visit me (she lives 600 miles away). I just kept it covered until then and applied oils when I could. She was able to detangle it after cutting half of it off. With this steamer in my deep conditiong routine, my hair is 85% back to itself after only 8 weeks of treatment.

Perfect for transitioning to natural hair!
I'm African-American and I'd been getting relaxers for about 25 years. I transitioned from relaxed to natural hair but it started breaking off after I stopped getting touch-ups. My natural 'scab hair' was growing out coarse and unmanageable. I went to the salon and they washed my hair and put me under the steamer for 20 minutes with conditioner in my hair. They rinsed it, blow dryed it and flat ironed it and it looked like I had a relaxer. But it only lasted two weeks under perfect conditions and costs about $60! Because I don't have the time or money to run to the salon every time it rains or I sweat, I bought this steamer and learned to do it myself.I didn't understand the directions but after about an hour, I figured out how to put it together. I leave the clear reservoir on the bottom (under the metal part) empty and screw it on. Then I put water into the plastic container on the top and pour it in. You don't want to overfill it or it will leak. There's no max line, so it's trial and error. Start with less water and add if needed. I turn both buttons on high and turn the timer. When it runs out of water, I repeat the cycle. I have a towel to catch dripping water and pillows in the chair and on my back to make it more comfortable. I like to steam for as much time as I have, it doesn't damage your hair. It's been great! It takes longer to do my hair (3 to 4 hours) and it isn't bone straight (which I dislike anyway) but it's very healthy. I no longer have hair all over the bathroom floor after blow-drying.My secret has been pre-pooing my hair. Combine any of the following oils and warm in the microwave: Shea butter, olive oil, coconut oil, honey, jojoba, Emu Oil - 100% Pure Moisturizing Emu Oil For Face, Skin, Hair Growth, Stretch Marks ★4OZ★ Fully Refined - Get Radiant, Younger looking, Plump Skin - Best Emu Oil with LIFETIME GUARANTEE - GET RESULTS or YOUR MONEY BACK!, Argan oil, Heritage Store Organic Castor Oil, 16 Ounce, grape seed, avocado or hemp. After warming, add a few drops of essential oil like lavender, rosemary or tea tree Aromatherapy Top 6 100% Pure Therapeutic Grade Basic Sampler Essential Oil Gift Set- 6/10 Ml (Lavender, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, Orange, Peppermint). Put it on dry hair before washing it, cover with a plastic shower cap and steam for at least thirty minutes.Wash out the pre-poo with a sulfate free shampoo like Aveda Damage Remedy, condition it and steam again. The conditioner doesn't matter as much because you've already deep-conditioned. I've used Hydrating Argan Oil Hair Mask by Arvazallia - SAVE 58% TODAY! Deep Conditioner and Restorative Treatment for Dry or Damaged Hair - Guaranteed to Repair, Restore, and Revitalize Your Hair Or Your Money Back!, Keracare, Aveda's Damage Remedy and even budget friendly Matrix Biolage to condition my hair. Then rinse the conditioner out in cool water and detangle with a wide-toothed comb like Wide Tooth Detanglng/Conditioning Shower Comb w/Hook for hanging (1 Comb- Asst. Colors) and a detangler like MARRAKESH by MARRAKESH X ORIGINAL LEAVE-IN TREATMENT & DETANGLER WITH HEMP & ARGAN OILS 4 OZ. Spray hair with a heat protectant such as Matrix Keratin Dose Pro-Keratin Renewal Leave-In Spray 6.7 oz, part and clip your hair, blow dry and flat iron. When you're transitioning, flat-ironing is a two part process. Use an expensive iron that gets hot but won't damage your hair like an FHI Heat (for the natural part of your hair), and a regular flat iron all over (for your relaxed and now straightened natural hair). I use the Hana Elite for my natural hair and I have a few regular flat irons (Sedu is my favorite). I'd suggest a reputable site for your flat iron. From reading the reviews, sellers on here have knockoff flat irons which is why they are so cheap.I've had my steamer for almost a year and I use it every two weeks. I'd buy another in a heartbeat if it stopped working. Sometimes it doesn't work because it needs more water or because it's gotten too hot. To cool it off, just shut everything off and unplug it for about five minutes and it will work fine. Never touch the inside of the steamer while it's on, it will burn you. Even though the initial investment of the steamer, tools and products was expensive, it's worth it. I paid way more to go to the salon every two weeks. At home, I can take the time to pamper my hair and use higher quality products. Now I only go to the salon when my hair needs to be colored or trimmed. I hope you love it as much as I do!
