Light from Many Lamps: A Treasury of Inspiration

I’ve carried my copy for more than 25 years, a gift from a dear friend who cannot imagine the number of times I reached for this book to bring me peace. I’ve purchased this book at least a dozen times over the years as a gift for others I thought would benefit from its collected wisdom.Funny to think the author, Lillian Eichler Watson, was better known for her books on etiquette than a collection of inspiration. Although the copyright reads 1951, the book is no less useful today than when first published. Some may argue, persuasively, this book gets better with age.I would not disagree.My favorite passage is on page 23 under the heading “Happiness & The Enjoyment of Living.” The selection is a retelling of Frederic Loomis story from “In a Chinese Garden,” originally published in 1942. The message is “Enjoy yourself — it is later than you think.”Keep that in mind if you’re mulling over a purchase. I’ve found this to be more than a great value (how many books do you carry for a quarter century?). Light from Many Lamps has provided me a lifetime of inspiration.Rating: Five stars

This book gives encouragement at times when life dishes out sad or troubled times. I got each of my adult children who are headed toward middle age for Christmas this year.

In this book you will find the wisdom of people like Burroughs, Longfellow, Emerson and Shakespeare, to name only a few. I found this a very comforting book to read in times of difficulty. It was a gift from a friend when I was young. Now that I am old, I find it a great gift for teens and adults, and recently bought two to give to friends. My book is very well used and falls open to my favored pages. I heartily recommend this book.

So many different topics and encouraging words from very knowledgeable people. It really lifts me up or gives me ideas on how to handle situations or even just a different perspective on things. Very good read. My pages are starting to wear thin from the many times I've turned to this book.

This book contains wonderful quotes by absolutely amazing people. It is something that I can pick up and read here and there with out having to submerse my self into for hours. However, it still gives me the clarity and insight I need. Great buy!

I've bought many copies for many people. There's an insightful passage for everyone!It's a good read to bookmark and I found one doesn't need to read it in sequential order.
