Its Big
I got this remembering the comics when I was young. I have to say, the story was better when I was younger, I'm assuming mostly because of the anticipation between books. It made the time between death and the mystery of the new Supermen seem so short, and I remember the conversations with friends about who was the real one for what felt like ever. That being said, it's still a good story, I haven't read it all yet, I skimmed through some of the filler stuff. The book itself is gorgeous, and about 4 or 5 inches thick it seems. The art is amazing. Worth the purchase at the time I bought it.

Need to be Superman to Lift It
This book is thick. I have all the original death and return of Superman comics since I was collecting Superman at the time (I have always been a Superman fan), and so wanted to read the full story without pulling them all out of their mylar bags. This book will fit the bill. It isn't a lay-in-bed-and-read book, it is too heavy--it has to sit on a desk or in your lap or something.Beyond that, the binding is tight, it should hold up to reading all the way through and multiple readings. There is enough white space where the pages are bound so that you can see the full page (none of the page is lost in the binding). And I love that the cover is the torn Superman cape from Superman #75. Quite the dramatic flair. Looking forward to spending a few nights reading this.

I did research so you wouldn't have to.
I tried searching for a nice comparison for this omnibus and the previous 2 releases on these reviews, but didn't find anything, so I made one. This is actually a 3rd printing. The 1st release was considered an omnibus, despite being a smaller size than the omnibus format. My comparison is on the 2nd and 3rd printings. Here's basically all you should know:2nd Printing: $100 cover price and includes:Action Comics #683-692Adventures of Superman #496-505Green Lantern #46Justice League of America #69Superman: Man of Steel #17-26Superman #73-82Superman: Legacy of Superman #13rd Printing (all black with Superman's Cape on cover): $150 cover price and includes:Action Comics #683-692 + Annual #5Adventures of Superman #496-505 + Annual #5Green Lantern #46Justice League of America #69 + #70Superman: Man of Steel #17-26 + Annual #2Superman #73-83 + Annual #5Legacy of Superman #1Supergirl and Team Luthor #1Newstime: the Life and Death of SupermanAnd also the foldout page from Superman #75. The 2nd printing just has it as the next page.Such a beautiful book and although I loved the artwork for the 2nd prining's cover more, I'm glad they included it in the back of the 3rd Printing book to make this printing even more complete.

It's not about Doomsday, but every day after.
For the longest time, I only had the "Death of Superman" collection, which ran from Doomsday's emergence up to the titular moment in the comic. I remember thinking, "well, that was... abrupt." I didn't realize at the time that I was missing out on all the emotional fallout of that event by not reading onward. That's where this collection comes in. It's almost mistitled, because it's not really about either the death or return of Superman, but all the time in between. It's the aftermath of a national tragedy that's depicted all too accurately here in the reactions of those close to the character and the response of the media. It's in the sense of denial that's made all the worse by the arrival of four new Superman claiming the mantle of the fallen hero. The death and return of Superman are really just bookends for the true story between both events. While I feel that enough time and story had passed for the "return" chapter to be fitting, it's the period of grief and the struggle to move on that I found to be the most moving.
