Perfect for Controlling Basement Humidity
Having a basement without any ventilation in New England means that the humidity needs to be controlled year-round especially since it's home to my favorite place in the house, my home gym.Like anything else, dehumidifiers don't last forever & it was time for a replacement. After researching a number of options, and reading reviews, I selected the Vellgoo & am very pleased. It effectively reduces the moisture in the air.In terms of accuray, it is on point. I have a humidity monitor in the basement & it consistently matches the reading on the unit. Since my old unit had given up the ghost, when I initially put the Vellgoo on, it was reading 62% & about 7 hours later, 50%. (The collection bucket filled overnight & the auto-shutoff feature engaged, so it increased to 52% this morning (photo)). In terms of the collection bucket, while noted in the description, I didn't think a lot about the size but it's quite small. On the one hand, it's easy to carry up/down stairs while on the other, it will need to be emptied at least daily during the summer months. I'll add however that the collection bucket has a lid! This is fantastic as I've sloshed/spilled plenty of water over the years LOL so it's a really nice perk.Another aspect that was important in selecting this brand/model is the energy efficiency award. Living in an area with very high electricity costs, and knowing during the summer it will run 24/7, the Energy Star award has value. The most difficult part of setup was the patience of allowing it to sit upright for 24 hours before use LOL; otherwise, it's very simple. My basement does not have anywhere to drain the unit so I rely on the included bucket, but a hose & adapter are included for those fortunate to have the other option.Overall, I am very pleased. The unit is very quiet - a nice bonus & is sleek in its design.

It has one job and it does it well
We bought our little home in mid-coast Maine (damp) last summer. Our inspector suggested we put a dehumidifier in our cellar-type basement, not to make it a dry basement (not possible), but because he couldn’t smell/find any mildew or mold and suggested a dehumidifier would keep it that way. There was also a support beam tucked in under the bathroom floor that was somehow getting moisture from somewhere. Since moving in, we have solved the issue with what was causing the wet beam, but even before we had that fixed, this unit began to dry that beam out significantly! We keep it running all year long and barely notice it. We don’t have to change the drain bucket because we have french drains out of our basement so the drain hose just drains into those. It has been set it and forget it for us and makes a big difference in our entire house in the damper months and keeps the home feeling warmer (dryer heat) in the winter as well. It does exactly what it’s supposed to do and surprising well for how small it is. I would say it has exceeded my expectations.

Sad to see it go...
I have been using this unit for several years to keep our place dry during vacations. We live in a very humid climate and always came home to a mold free home... Which actually happened to us prior to buying this unit. 4 weeks away and couches, chairs, fabrics... you name it... all covered in fuzz. This has not happened since we started using the dehumidifier. Sadly, the unit finally gave out and the region we moved to is outside of the continental US so we cant send it in for repairs, or replacement. I did reach out to Vellgoo and they responded quickly and professionally, however we just cant get it fixed due to our location in the Mariana Islands. I'll sadly have to try another brand that is available locally, but they cost much more for the same coverage area. But that's the cost of living in paradise. I would still recommend this if anyone is looking for an affordable and reliable unit. Our humidity and salty ocean air in a Pacific Island will do a number to any unit and this one did really well considering the environment.

Buyer Beware - Unit Non-functional after a year of ownership. Possibly due to refrigerant leak.
Update: June 16, 2025. After contacting customer support, they asked me to perform some simple troubleshooting steps and with that being unsuccessful, offered to replace the unit. I was considering the replacement unit up until they stated that the replacement unit would continue the existing warranty and not come with a brand new warranty. When I asked about this further, they offered to either replace the unit or refund the cost of the unit. I took the refund option and was notified by Amazon shortly thereafter that I had a refund on the way. So, while the unit may not have performed to my expectations for its longevity, I do appreciate that customer service was able to satisfy me in the end. After my experience with customer service/support, I am changing my review from a 1 star, up to a 4. I don't feel a 5 is justified as I shouldn't have had to reach out for a faulty product so soon, but they did refund me my purchase, so back up to 4 we go. Thanks!Original Review:Buyer beware! I had purchased this unit back in November 2024 to replace a dehumidifier in the basement from the previous homeowner. I got the 4500 sq ft model. It worked really well for the warmer months last year; however, upon activating the unit for this summer (2025), it turns on, no error codes, compressor is running, but there is no water being added to the bucket despite the humidity registering on two different devices as 70%.I had to get out the older non-Energy Star dehumidifier from the previous homeowner to bring down my humidity levels. It pulled two buckets of water out of the air today while the other one, (this unit), didn't collect any.I have contacted customer service at their support website and am currently waiting for a response. I am not pleased that when purchasing a $220 (USD) dehumidifier that it goes belly up come next season when it's needed. I suspect, like other reviewers have stated, that the refrigerant has leaked out. As such, the unit is unable to cool the air and therefore cause condensation.
