oddly clueless
Let's see, Peter lived in Garden Lodge-on Freddie's dime. He traveled all over the world-on Freddie's dime. He partied like a rock star-on Freddie's dime. Freddie paid off Peter's mortgage. Peter inherited more money than most people will ever see, got his salary for over 3 months after Freddie died, than got 'minimum' severance (and complains about it) and his biggest reaction to his friend's death is that the gravy train stopped? That he had to move with only 3 months notice? That the cats got taken care of better than he did?Worst of all, he continues to throw stones at Mary Austin. She loved Freddie long before he became rich and famous-would Peter have been around if Freddie hadn't had money? She supported him financially and emotionally for years-could anyone else at Garden Lodge make that claim? She knew his demons and still loved him and helped him fight his drug use. Can Peter say that? There is a huge difference between accepting someone's weaknesses and exploiting them. Is Peter even capable of understanding that Freddie was close to Mary not out of guilt but out of gratitude? That she had believed in him and that he knew that if he lost everything, she alone would still be with him, still love and encourage him, still stand with him against any challenge? Just as she always had-she alone has not violated his memory, never written books and rarely given interviews, made no attempt to violate his privacy. Freddie called her his 'only friend'-not Peter or even Jim Hutton, whom he certainly cared for. He even called Mary his wife. Clearly, he wanted her to have Garden Lodge for herself and her children.Sorry, Peter, you got a lot more than you deserved.

Big disappointment
Not much on facts regarding Freddie. Mainly what the author thought Freddie felt or thought about Mary, Jim, the band and Freddie's many lovers. He discusses building the Legend/Freddie sort of snarkily. What did Peter expect Jim Beach and the other Queen members to do? Tear Freddie down or attempt to protect Freddie's legacy? Everyone has lost a loved one, either a family member or a friend. Jim Beach explained to these guys when they would have to leave by and yet, Freestone, Hutton and Fannelli seemed put upon that they were expected to leave at 3 months. If, Freddie wanted these guys to continue living at Garden Lodge until they felt like leaving, why didn't he put it in his will? I can understand the position that Mary Austin was in, an eight months pregnant mother with a toddler, going thru a breakup. She lost a loved one also. I think that Mary had a lot to deal with. The part about removing gifts that these 3 had given Freddie, how does anyone know what they gave Freddie? To assume that something very expensive was given to Freddie by them is ridiculous. Were these guys independently wealthy? I'd be worried too about what they were taking. If Freddie wanted them to have it, why didn't he instructions in his will to do this? Instead he gave the house and all of his possessions in the house to Mary. The bottom line, if you don't have true facts that were told to you, don't make up facts as you think they are. This book was a big disappointment and I'm sure that Freddie would've been disappointed also.

not worth even the Kindle price of $2.99
A petty book by an sad man, still hanging onto Freddie Mercury's coattails. A lot about him and the people who "did him wrong" and very little new about Freddie.

I enjoyed this book
I enjoyed this book, tho only rating it four stars for it's brevity... I found it interesting to understand some of the things going on in the background at Garden Lodge at the time of the illness and death of Freddie Mercury, and to be more balanced than Jim Hutton's view. I came away notdisliking Mary Austin as much as I found I had, and felt much more empathy for her.

Mixed Salad
The book is all over the place like mixed salad. Bits and pieces of Freddie 's impact realized after his death, the tributes, etc. I didn't read the first book about the 14 years Peter Freestone worked for Freddie. Peter probably knew Freddie better than anyone except Mary Austin and Jim Hutton, then again no one really knew him. He did discuss Freddie 's love for Mary Austin and Barbara Valentin and I suspect his conclusions on that was spot on.

Freddie Mercury - What He Left Behind
The book was kind of a let down. Since the title of the book is: "Freddie Mercury - What He Left Behind" I assumed the book would be more about Freddie and what he left behind rather than what happened to his friends. I do appreciate Peter Freestone sharing his life and all that he and the rest of Freddie's friends went through after Freddie died. Am sure it was a very tortuous time for all of them. My expectations were too high and thought the book would be more about what Freddie actually did leave behind, other than his music and his legacy. It was an okay read and glad I could read it on Kindle rather than purchasing the actual book.

What Remains...
Wonderful offering, as usual, by Freddie’s PA and friend, Peter “Phoebe” Freestone. His 3 books (including the cookbook of Freddie’s favorite dishes) offer an intimate insight into a much loved, worshipped, and greatly missed human being and legend. Peter’s books offer an insight into Freddie’s mind yet never really betray nor exploit his (Freddie’s) most personal moments. Some have written that this book is disjointed but Phoebe writes as an artist- scattered yet always coming back to the original point. It’s how I think as well.Thank you, Phoebe, for keeping Freddie’s spirit alive.Rock on. 🤘🏽

Meh
The first picture chosen to illustrate the book is frightening. The last picture of the book is concerning. And in between there is not much to read. I found the book unnecessary. The first book of Peter freestone is excellent though. The best book of Freddie Mercury and by far.

Wish I hadn’t bothered.
Not a great read. I’ve read quite a few of the Freddie Mercury biographies, and was looking forward to readingthis one, because Peter had a lot of imput into the writings of it. But sadly the book didn’t grip my attention. The first 3 chapters were ok, reading about what happened after the funeral between Joe, Peter & Jim, but that is yourlot. Everything else was just a jumbled mess of various places that Freddie had or hadn’t been too, and more on the life ofPeter.

VERY INTERESTING UNTIL THE FINAL COUPLE OF CHAPTERS.
I am a massive Queen fan and so decided to read this book. At the beginning it was really interesting but towards the end, I have to admit I found it slightly boring. Towards the end of the book, the author just speaks about himself and what's happening to him and I found it all very tedious. I wanted to read more about the Great Freddie Mercury. Having said that, it was interesting and the author did give a good insight into Freddie and his background etc. It was just the end of the book that spoilt it.

not very much about Freddie, that I didn't already know more of the heartache and trouble he caused.A good read all the same

The real story
My first reading 2020 - genuine and total believable words and statements from Peter Freestone who I consider has told the real truth - well done Peter I've learned quite a few things about Freddie that needed confirming before and after he passed.
