Marble Wine Chiller - Black

not much detail to add about this - bought as gift for my dad last year...he loves how it's heavy-duty. stick it in the freezer a while and it's good to go. no mess, and the black always looks classy.

A reasonably priced chiller that looks good and really does work. Keeps our wine chilled for up to an hour.

My review of the green marble version applies to this product as well:I saw a similar product at an outdoor cafe recently, and even on a hot summer day, it managed to keep a large bottle of sparkling water cold over a long dinner. Based on that, I decided to buy a set of these things and just keep them in the back of my freezer so they'd be ready when I needed one. Overall, I'm happy with the product - it's essentially not much more than a hollowed out block of marble - but it's easy to use and it definitely keeps bottled beverages at a cold temperature for a long time.The size is slightly on the large side, perhaps half an inch wider in diameter than the bottles I normally use. I suppose it would fit a squat champagne bottle comfortably, but I suspect that the little half inch gap reduces cooling efficiency somewhat since it allows a layer of air between the bottle and the wall of the chiller.It's also quite heavy, as you'd expect. An added benefit is that it would be pretty difficult to accidentally tip a bottle over while it's sitting in one of these babies.One complaint is that in humid weather, the stone surface chills the surrounding air below the dew point, and thus it "sweats" fairly substantially. This isn't a product defect - just physics in action - but you can get quite a small puddle under the wine chiller that might damage (say) fine wood finishes if you're not careful.My other complaint is that the one I received isn't black...it's more of a medium shade of gray. It works fine and all, just isn't as shown in the photograph.Otherwise, it's a great product that does what it claims to do.

I have mixed thoughts on my review so I'll cut right to the weakness of this Marble Wine Chiller: it doesn't stay cold for long and even then, does not keep bottles cold very well. That said, I still find it a very usable product for my reds that I pull from my wine fridge, but it only has enough thermal mass to stave off the heat for 1 hour or so. That's often long enough, but this will not bring a full bottle of red wine down to a drinkable temperature, let alone chilling any white. I drink 75% reds, and use this cooler most of the time I open a bottle. But I usually find my bottles warming up before long.So, I'd give it 4 stars for keeping a bottle of red at 55-65 degrees (since it doesn't do it for long), 2 stars if you're trying to keep a white wine cold, and 5 stars for looking good. Overall I'd still buy it again, but think 3 stars is an appropriate rating.

I ordered this item last year as a gift. The recipient loved it. It was great to see it in use when I visited last week.

This is large enough for a variety of bottles and seems like a quality heavy-duty wine chiller but I'm disappointed that the box it came in was damaged. It appeared to be packaged nicely and the shipping box wasn't damaged so I can only guess that it was placed in the box already damaged before shipping which is unfortunate because now it looks like it has been used. Not a good look for a gift :(
