TOO MANY **OLD MAIDS** IT IS TASTY BUT NOT ALL POPPING
I own a popcorn machine (Great Western), and I have been searching for good quality popiing corn for ages. I bought this because it says it is from USA. However, I am not convinced. It is either not from USA, or it is not a good enough quality that one expects when one buys corn from the land of best quality corn.It has the potential to taste good. It is not all popping. For example, the cheap corn from Tesco (Natco/Whitworth) all pops leaving very few unpopped kernels. There is only one problem with those Tesco buys... they all taste awful. They tend to taste dry and lifeless. They lack that appetising flavour and aroma of good quality American produce. However, I have since found out that not all corn grown in USA is the same. You have to buy high grade ones. Usually high grade ones will have a published ratio to expect for unpopped corn! They will also publish the expansion to expect! Since I do not find all those data on this Amazon page for this item, I can only conclude that this is not a high grade popping corn. Real world using after three tries have all resulted in a significant number of tough to eat, chewey product with a significant number of unpopped kernels (old maids) that just ends up in the old maid drawer. The reason, they say, for too many old maids is because it has not got enough moisture within each kernel to cause an explosion and the pop. So perhaps, I have to find a way of rehydrating the corn prior to usage? I will research this... if I find a way to reduce old maids then I will come back here and update my review. Thanks for reading.
