Quiet; large; spring-loaded; very well made; FINALLY WORKS
If I could give it 6 stars, I would. This is my FOURTH go around at trying to solve a backdraft problem with my kitchen vent hood. This one finally did the trick. Amazing how many bad options there are out there for a backdraft damper, never would have guessed it.The problem is that most other backdraft preventer work by closing the flap using gravity alone, and it turns out that once installed, that's not always enough - kind of random. But you can tell right away when you step in the kitchen if the flap is open or not by whether youre freezing or comfortable: Walk to the hood; put your hand under and feel for the draft; get your answer - you'll always guess it right. With this one, it's always closed and the room is always comfortable. Thank you thank you thank you!! It's also very well made (sturdy, compared to all the others) and _not_ more expensive! It's also quieter than the others. Go figure. My only complaint: it only comes in 6" or 8" dia. WTF!! A vent hood has standard 7" ductwork. I got around this by buying and installing 2 flares, one on either sides. It mates nicely with the 7", but you need to have a bit of room in the cabinet above the hood: can't have a 90deg turn too close to the hood. You won't be able to cut through the metal work to reshape it easily, unless other thin-gage dampers, which I spent hours re-shaping.Works like a charm when installed right.

Top notch product!
Top notch. Seals really well due to its gasket. I couldn't believe how bad the only option at Home Depot was. This is super high quality.

Works
One of the pieces needed in my kitchen remodel, you don’t realize how much cold air in the winter comes back through the pipe without one of these. Originally i bought a broan damper but i didnt like how it worked and that it made the 7” pipe smaller. I found this one where the tolerances are smaller making less room for air to go through when closed, none of these are air tight when closed. They could have added some rubber to the bottom where flaps rest, i may when I take it back down to finish the back splash. Luckily my local hd had 7 to 8” adapters, worked great.

Really good build quality, but I will be returning for the fact that the butterfly flaps on the inside do not seal against anything. I did not realize that the rubber gaskets were on the outside of the unit to make a seal with the ducting. Without any foam or rubber for the butterfly flaps to seal against, a reasonable amount of air can get around the edges which would allow cold winter air to backflow through my kitchen range which is what I'm trying to prevent.

Best kitchen vent hood damper
I looked at a lot of different backdraft dampers, and this is by far the best one for my new custom made kitchen vent hood. I was able to get a nice tight fit inside of a stainless steel duct reducer cone, so there is minimal edge lip on the inside. One great feature is that the damper seal is a metal ridge instead of foam. This means it can withstand high heat applications and it won’t gunk up and turn into foam goo from exposure to heat and grease after several years. Also I love the black powder coat. The rest of my duct work is stainless steel. This power coat will help prevent rust from constant hot steam. The rubber seals are nice for making a more secure and air tight connection.Highly recommended!

Great high quality
Fantastic tight seal, well built, heavy duty, but alas I had to return it as it was too long between both gasket sets.
