GiftBay Wedding Cake Stand Tapered Round 12" (top) Diameter, Strongly Built For Professional Bakers

I am a professional wedding cake provider and have several real silver, silver plated and the new aluminum stands in my bakery. I like the look of this stand, as it looks like the old fashioned silver stands and their ornate carvings. But, when I took this stand out of the box, I thought it was plastic. Seriously. The underneath is spray painted gunmetal gray and while the outside will "tink" like its metal, and is shiney like aluminum, I can't tell if this is just very cheap thin metal with some type of inner coating or metal over plastic or what... There are three legs and they are poorly welded/adhered on in three spots. The upper rim has "slash" indentations across it that in places, it is missing or not imbossed completely. My cakes are heavy. Sometimes weighing upwards of 40-50 or 60 pounds when finished icing. I put the stand on the counter and pushed down in the center with both hands... the center sank and the outside walls bowed up, with one foot even coming off the counter. I would never trust one of my cakes on this stand. Not without first reinforcing it underneath with a solid piece of styrofoam or wood so the weight of the cake is transferred through the stand directly onto the table through the support. I would never trust these scary little feet poorly welded on, with a cake. Now, it is very pretty when you stand back three or more feet and look at it. Especially the top, which unfortunately, you're going to cover with a cake. Also, the inside of the rim is just a hair under 16", which means your cake board must not be any wider than 15 1/2" or else your cakeboard and subsequently cake, will sit crooked.Now, I might be able to use this cake on a smaller, 3 layer cake for perhaps 100 or less servings, with a bottom cake board of 15" or less, as long as it is reinforced from beneath. The upside is, I will never have to polish it, and it does have lovely dark lines etched in to really make the pattern pop. It will look nice under a styrofoam display cake in the bakery lobby, but I don't believe I will ever put a real cake of more than three small layers on it. I'm going to keep it because it's just a hassle to return and I might be able to use it for dessert tables too. At $75, it's not a bargain for the quality and I think you might find it for less elsewhere. If you're looking for the nice, heavy, sturdy metal stand, this is not the stand for you. But if you're going just for looks and putting on something less valuable (and lighter) than your four tier wedding cake on it, then ok. But anything heavier than 40 pounds, you're risking a total collapse of the stand, in my opinion.

The stand is sturdy and beautifully designed. Bought it for my daughters wedding cake. The stand is a nice big size too.

Apparently this is very beautiful... I had no idea since frankly it was the only non-plastic choice in this size, so I got it in part because there were no other options. I did not really want to spend this much, but my brother is getting married in November so we will use it at least twice. Got compliments from all the staff who regularly host and provide for weddings on this piece. It seems worth the price, very sturdy. Requires some detailed cleaning d/t cake getting into the engraving, but just let a small layer of water soak in there for a bit and it should be fine.

Very nice cake stand. This’ a tres leches cake (very heavy) and held my cake for 5 hrs with out a problem.

This cake stand appears to be a handmade item, and the metalwork is gorgeous. (I'm tempted to hang it on a wall when not in use.) It's very sturdy and level, too. I can't wait to use it!I ordered the 18" size to give room for decorations around a 16" cake base. But I think even smaller cakes would benefit from the extra room around the base. And it's large enough to display cookies or cupcakes at times when I don't need a large cake stand.

This cake stand is sinfully gorgeous, durable and in no way could I be happier with it. I definitely intend to order the other sizes Perfect!

This cake stand is more beautiful than the picture shows. It almost looks like a Scottish thistle engraving. It looks like it could have belonged to my great-grandmother, because it looks well-made and antique. Soooo much prettier than the cake stands found in the bridal section of the stores near me. My cousin already asked to use it for her upcoming wedding. I had planned to resell it, but I've decided it's too pretty so I'm keeping it even though I rarely serve layer cakes. It's just too nice to give it up. ;)
