Absolutely love this device. My only concern/warning is the files are unencrypted on the device. Lose it and you potentially could have a stranger listening to your recordings. Encryption is a must have feature, imo, since this is meant to be a portable device.I'm knocking one star off due to the lack of encryption. Otherwise I would give it a strong 5/5.

I hadn't used audio recorders before, but it was important for me to get a recorder that wouldn't capture background sounds. This recorder works great for that. I first tested it by driving down the street with the windows rolled down. I spoke at varying volumes and even whispered when the device was 2-3 ft away. The recorder captured my voice clearly and blocked most of the background wind/car sounds.If you haven't used an audio recorder before, make sure that you set the time before you use it (I think that's normal for this kind of thing). When you connect it to your computer, there's a folder called "settime." Go in there and run the program and then your timestamps will be correct for any recordings you do after that.

This mini-recorder is really handy to keep on my keychain. It records pretty well and connects easily by USB to my computer to transfer audio files.On the down side, the battery life is disappointingly short. My other MP3 mini-recorder (Sanyo ICR-XPS01M) lasts at least 6 months between charges, which is great. The Vandlion's battery lasts maybe a month. It's very disappointing to pull out the Vandlion at a critical moment and find the battery dead.Another shortcoming is that the Record button sometimes switches on in my pocket, and if I don't notice for a few days, the whole memory fills up. Also, the words "ON" and "OFF" are too tiny to read, so I just have to remember which switch direction is on vs. off.Finally, the black color on the outside of the unit rubs off quickly. This is only a cosmetic issue, but the Vandlion now looks old and crappy.Overall I guess I'm satisfied, but this recorder could have been so much better with longer battery life (the main issue) an on/off switch that stays in place in my pocket.

I have this on my keychain and switch it to a lanyard. It gets bumped and bruised a little bit but it still records and the recording is clear and can pick up voices from a distance. Had it for 2 mo.(As of 11/18/23) and it hasn't broken yet despite roughly handling it. Most people also don't notice it or know what it is unless I tell them if you want to be doscreet. Would recommend.

The clip on this broke right out of the package. I think I tested how strong it was before attaching it to a keychain and the spring clip broke on the second or third movement of the device. Fortunately, it does have a space on the other end that a keyring can be attached however it will then also have a random metal hook on the other side that will catch on things. If you have a small metal hacksaw, jewlers saw, or metal bandsaw, I would carefully cut it off for safety. The audio on the recording works very well, it has a pretty good battery life, and provided that you have a windows device, setting up the time, and downloading/playing audio is quite simple. I would've sent it back due to the broken clip but i needed something right away and otherwise, it has served its purpose. I would suggest utilizing a split-ring key ring on the back end of this right away and not trusting the clip to work appropriately especially if you plan on having anything important saved on it. If this had a MUCH more robust spring that worked for a while, or even a way to lock the spring clip closed, I'd probably have issued 4, maybe even 5 stars.

1st I'd like to say that I don't have much experience with recording devices so I don't have anything to compare it to. With that said this is a wonderful recorder. I used it to record my kids daycare providers after they started crying while sending them to school. I first attached it to the outside of their lunch boxes using the ring. The ring didn't break but I think they found it because it stopped recording after about 2 hours. It's small enough that I cut a tiny hole in the inside of their lunch box and slipped it through so it would go unnoticed. I could hear everything clearly. Even through the lunch box fabric! My only concern was that I think it turns off automatically after a certain time because again I only got about 2 hours of recording. I was supposed to look more into it but I never did. I'm not docking points for that because i never looked into it but i honestly think it automatically shuts off so keep that in mind. I've also used it to record a meeting on zoom so I didn't have to take notes and it worked very well. Don't sit it too close to the computer. It seems to have great range because when i first tested it out at home i forgot to turn it off and i heard my husband talking in the background far away from the device. I definitely recommend this recorder. Mainly recommended because of the sound quality while hidden inside the lunchbox fabric!!! Get it!!

This product delivers as promised, with better sound quality than expected.I did have a problem w/ the micro USB port. It failed (a pin I guess) after about 20 or so plug & unplugs. I used the cord that came with it and was very careful plugging & unplugging. I connected with the company and they resolved the issue.

After contacting the seller they offered a refund or to send a replacement. Worked find to begin with. I would just keep it in a pocket for when I needed it. I probably only used it 5 times within 6 months but now it won’t connect to anything so I am unable to do anything with recordings. Don’t waste your time or money!

Received the product, and looked like a solid build (material and all).But when I wanted to power it up, I noticed that the micro-USB seemed a little tiny off. Which makes it difficult to insert the USB device in it to charge. I must be careful, otherwise I can further damage it. I suspect in time, this will break.In the recording folder on the device, they had a default WAV file. Tried to play it (with their recommended audio player, being Windows Media Player), but it immediately said the file "wasn't in a supporte format". That's weird.So I fully charged the unit anyway. Brought it with me my car and successfully recorded myself for two 1-hour segments. Was able to play it back on my PC.But then I tried four other times (same type of test) ... ALL four WAV files told me it wasn't supported media format. Basically files are corrupted.So out of five times, only worked once so far!! For the price, this is totally bogus and not acceptable! Very dissapointed.Lastly, their PDF documentation is very poor English. Althoug not a big issue, at this price, you'd expect great documentation.------------------------Update 2023.07.20 - Although I still have issues playing the audio files with Windows Media Player, I did try their remote thingy which works, but seems half non-functional. I then installed on my PC a third-party WAV file reader and realized the files ARE NOT CORRUPTED because it can easily read them. So problem would seem to be with Microsoft (again). For this reason, I have changed my rating from 1-star to 3-star.Note that this thing does not keep dates at all. Not sure how they create files with date stamps ... almost seems random.Althgouh you can set the maximum recording length (ie: mine is set at 60 minutes), I wish they would just start a new file after a lengthy delay. So as an example, I could hop into my vehicle after a few days and the recording starts at the very end of a file. Then the rest is in a new file. This is annoying to figure out what is where and when. If they would realize that it has been say 10 minutes of no recording, when it starts, it starts with a new file, even though the last one only had 36 minutes.Overall, mixed about this product. I will probably try to find another competitor and try it out.
