The Marrex MX-G20M Geotagging GPS System enables you to geotag images captured with your camera, so you can record latitude, longitude, altitude and time information so when you look back, you will have a record of when and where each photo was captured. This feature-rich, lightweight, & compact unit can also serve as an electronic compass or a stand-alone GPS recorder. Internal 3-Axis Electronic Compass The MX-G20M features a 3-Axis Electronic Compass which records longitude, latitude and altitude information precisely accurate to less than 2.5m (8 feet). Super-fast processer acquires a GPS signal in under 30 seconds. When the signal is lost due to interference, it maintains the last recorded data and geotags it to your images. LCD Display LCD prominently displays latitude, longitude, & altitude data so there never is any guessing whether the GPS receiver is functioning. Internal Battery The MX-G20M is powered by an internal battery and will last up to 10 hours on one charge. The power method will switch to your cameras battery only after the internal battery is depleted. Remote Shutter The MX-G20M also includes a remote shutter cord which connects directly to the GPS unit allowing you to remotely trigger your camera shutter from 3 feet away. Compatibility As of publication, the MX-G20M is compatible with the Nikon D7100, D7000, D5300, D5200, D5100, D5000, D3300, D3200, D3100, D810, D800, D700, D610, D600, D300, D200, D90, D4S, D4, D3, D2HS, D2XS & D2X DSLR Cameras. Great Unit with the worst instructions ever.
Just got the device & have not used it much but thought it would be best to post a review ASAP. I have been geotagging for a long time & I have over 3,500 images on Google earth. This is a nice unit, a little large but it does have an internal battery which is a nice feature. It comes with long excellent quality cables that should hold up & also give you the option of not placing the unit in the camera hot shoe. Unit has an LED Screen that can be lit by pushing a button & displays date, time, position, direction, & # of satellite locks. It is every bit as accurate as my other units. Overall I am very happy with the unit. Now for the downside. As the other reviewer said, it has some very crazy operating procedures for getting it to charge, getting it to run off the camera battery when dead, getting to charge or not to charge from the camera battery. The procedures are not that complicated for set-up or use but the mini instruction book is almost useless even if you can understand it. There is not much set up to change time zone, LED sleep time, & some other minor items but it is tedious due to the lack of instructions.I like the unit & plan to keep it, but if this is your 1st tagger & you want a easy to set-up, no fuss to use, with easy to follow instruction this unit might not be for you. If you have used other units, understand what they do, or don't mind a little tinkering then this is a rather impressive unit. Good solid construction, quality cables, nice LED screen that can be lit, internal battery, & the ability to function off the camera battery or any external battery device.Sept 14Been using the unit & like it. Most times lockes on signal within 30 seconds. Needs clear sky, no umbrellas or sunroof in the way but locks in fast. The internal battery is a nice feature, my camera does not have the greatest battery life & the internal battery in the GPS really helps.Only 2 minor complaints.1. Comes with 2 cables, both high quality. 1 is a 10 pin but the other is a small rectangle on the camera side for my d7100 & it is different from anything I have. I do not have a back-up & need to order one.2. The plastic piece that goes in the hot shoe is a little shaky.Follow Up: October 31.I use the unit all the time & really like the unit, but still have trouble with the instructions. The LCD screen & the internal battery are great features. As I said in the September Review, the hot shoe part was shaky. Well it came off the GPS, I should have returned it earlier but I didn't. I contacted Movo and Alex, who I have dealt with in the past buying a back up cable for the device, assured me the problem would be fixed ASAP but he needed to contact China to see how it would be handled. In no time at all I got a message back from Alex that I needed to return the unit to Mova (In LA) & they would send me a new one. Took less than a week in both directions. I cannot say enough about how well I was treated & how nice Movo was about the problem. I do not buy items directly from China because of communication & shipping problems that I have had in the past but the fact that Movo (& Alex) dealt with the problem and did it so quickly & with a great attitude makes them a great vendor to buy from on Amazon. The unit has a 1-year warranty.

Worked for 1 day then died
Great out of the box, for a few hours. I charged it up and tested carefully. It was recording my camera position and heading accurately (Nikon D610), and the LCD screen was helpful. The manual is written in tiny letters but legible and reasonably useful. I left the device on to see how long the battery would last (8 hours is claimed). It probably went almost that long before "turning off". I went to check on it, the LCD was blank; so I plugged in the USB cable to charge as I had done originally...nothing! Tried different charging cables (standard USB-type cable) and chargers including the laptop I'd used to charge it originally. Left it plugged in overnight...no good. Pressing and holding the power button, nothing. If discharging the battery once is what killed the device, then I killed it, but this seems like a situation that would happen eventually during normal use. I emailed Marrex from their website for suggestions but did not receive a reply (in 48 hours, during the week)...sending the defective unit back and will try another brand (probably Solmeta, there are not many choices for devices that record direction/heading as well as position). I had also ordered the cheaper, non-LCD MX-G20 to try it with this one, but the direction/heading was way off on it, so that one also went back to Amazon. It's a pity, these look well-made but obviously have some issues.

Works... but with design flaws
GoodLocks on quicklyOnly unit that displays lat /longSelf powered so it does not drain cameraBadNo indicator for charge completeCamera plug comes straight out instead of a 90 degree angle so it risks getting snagged and damaging camera socketHot shoe is separate piece of cheap plastic that immediately broke off. I superglued it back and that workedGiven high price they should include a charger and caseNo daylight savings setting so for east coast I had to say I was in San Paolo (Atlantic time)Tether is on hot shoe and NOT unit itself so it hotshot breaks you run risk of losing the main unitPoor instruction manualBattery is internal so you can't bring spares on an extended wilderness shootGood product if you can get past the irritating glitches. Clearly not designed by an experienced field photographer

Bad product and no support from manufacturer
Purchased for a trip to Hong Kong on 3/13/15. I couldn't get it to find any GPS satellites until my 3rd day there and if the unit went to sleep it wouldn't find a satellite again even when I kept it turned on all day. Once I got it to connect to a satellite (3 actually) I had to keep it powered up which drained both my batteries in my Nikon d810. I usually never use my second battery. Returning home I discovered that the return period ended the day before I came home. The Marrex however started to work finding 10 satellites and connecting immediately for the next 10 days. Several weeks later I charged it up over night to take on a shoot the next day and I couldn't get the Marrex to turn on even when plugged in to a power source. The next day it would intermittently turn on.I sent Marrex a request via their website to have the unit replaced under the 1 year warranty. 10 days later they have still not responded to me.As usual, Amazon has come to the rescue and is allowing me to return the item even though it is not eligible since the manufacturer is not responding and honoring their 1 year warranty.Never going to buy a Marrex product again. Save your money and buy something else from someone else.

Good while it lasted
Worked brilliantly for 6 weeks and I was just thinking what good value for money it was compared with the Nikon one when suddenly it went hot and died completely - now I can't even charge up the battery.

Worked twice, now failed to get GPS lock
Originally, I was very happy with this. It worked easily on the two days I used it. I tried it again recently and it failed to get a GPS lock then or since... despite clear, unobscured view of sky.

Great piece of kit
cracking unit for the price, has its own rechargeable battery so it doesn't drain your camera, has a compass as well.If you want to geotag your images, get one of these, better than the nikon unit and far cheaper.

A good GPS System
Very good but it must be fully charged before being used, otherwise it runs the camera battery down very fast.
