Great for keeping the dog safe
Bought one of these gates a few years ago to keep the dog in a room, and it worked great. The dog was at risk of catapulting himself out of the second-story windows recently, so I finally bought more gates for the windows. Now the windows are open, the dog is safe, and fresh air is flowing.

Not FERRET proof
Definitely not ferret proof. While he won't fit through the holes he can climb then and he also sticks his lil weasel hands through the holes and yanks with all his like stinker strength and yanks it right out of the doorway . While I won't be able to use it the quality is good. Not that easy to install imho tho takes screws into your wall which I wasn't aware of.Opening it is a puzzle lol I had to double check the instructions. So I have issues adjusting the width. It locks tight . Works great tho for it's intended purpose. Not super tall typical baby gate size . Light weight.

Nice gate
The gate itself is really nice. Sturdy. The latch part is an entire nightmare. Couldn't get it open without 2 sets of pliers. Ended up using the pliers to bend open the latch just enough so it would lock and unlock easier. Glad we decided to do that instead of returning it.

Almost impossible to lift the latch
Good price. Looks fine. Unfortunately this is almost impossible to lift the latch. It is so tight that I gave up trying, and the gate is just propped up at the bottom of the stairs. I don’t know if it was damaged in transit but it is too late to return. Otherwise I would send it back.

LIFESAVER!
I have been using this gate for a good 3-4 weeks now and I have to say... it's EXACTLY what I needed. I realize that most people are probably considering purchasing it for the purpose of containing small children, but let me suggest an alternate use: exotic pets. I currently own two species which are not at all compatible, and this, combined with my tiny NYC apartment living space makes ensuring their safety incredibly difficult and time consuming. I can't tell you how many times I have had to wrastle my mongoose Rikki to the ground to keep him from killing his sister, a cobra named Nagaina. Sibling rivalry is putting it mildly. While I have attempted to uphold a strict standard of discipline, thinking that as they get older they may start to get along better, it still wasn't working. The final straw came when I returned home to find Rikki straddling Nagaina, small hands clasped around her throat, attempting to strangle her. I was devastated... I finally had to admit to myself that they were never going to be close. I was forced to contain Nagaina in my tiny bathroom to protect her life until I could figure out a better solution. She was depressed... not only about being confined in a small windowless environment 24/7, but also because Rikki had spitefully crushed each and every last one of her eggs a few weeks prior. :( I was beginning to think that the only answer was therapy for Rikki (clearly he experienced some trauma in his childhood which causes him to lash out at those defenseless against him), when finally, after visiting the home of a dear friend (my beloved college roommate) with twin toddlers that must be kept separate with a gate to prevent their teaming up to create extreme mischief--I had an idea. I took the baby gate idea and decided to implement it in my own home. I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner--after all, we are a patchwork family rather like that of Angelina Jolie and her adopted children. So, I got on amazon looking for a gate that was not only functional, but that would fit my decor and make the animals feel like they were at home. I found the answer in this beautiful exotic bamboo gate. Because of the molding above my floor I have to place it a few inches from the floor, but it's not a problem. Nagaina knows way better than to crawl under it into any space that Rikki is residing in. Now, they each get half of the apartment to themselves, and I alternate on a weekly basis since each half has certain amenities they both deserve periodic access to. Rikki did try for a few days to overcome the gate and get at his sister, but after many failed attempts he gave up and there is now peace in the household. THANK YOU, SAFETY 1ST! You saved me thousands of dollars in counseling for Rikki, and possibly even Nagaina's life! :)

Very satisfied
I have been pleased with the quality of this gate thus far. I use it too keep both my 2yr old and our yorkiepoo out of the laundry area and bathroom. It is small enough to fit the bathroom doorway but also expands wide enough to block the hallway opening to the laundry area so it is the perfect size for my needs. The height is good. I have no problem stepping over it multiple times a day (and I have fairly short legs) but the dog doesn't jump over it and the toddler has not climbed it yet. It is also short enough that my kitten has no problem getting over it to get to his litter box in the bathroom. The gate fits firmly and securely in the doorway. This has been toddler tested regularly because he likes to try to shake it loose if I am on the other side. The cat also jumps on/over it multiple times a day. It has yet to budge. At the same time, it is easy to take down and put back up and has held up well to this so far.I was leery of the plastic at first, but it seems pretty sturdy. It has yet to come loose or crack or show any wear. It really feels more sturdy than similarly styled gates I have used in the past that had the crosshatch plastic or coated wire. I think the black plastic and accents and the bamboo wood are more aesthetically pleasing as well.I am very satisfied with this product and wish I had found it sooner. A couple of these gates would have been extremely handy for blocking off rooms in my previous house when I regularly had two young children and three small dogs running around. We did have a similarly styled gate at one point bu were very disappointed because it did not hold up as well (the wooden arm broke). I am glad I decided to give this one a shot even though I was initially leery of wooden pressure gates due to that previous bad experience.I also purchased a very similar bamboo and black plastic pressure mount gate of this size by another brand (Summer Infant). While that one is a little nicer aesthetically (darker stain, fancier plastic design), it does not feel nearly as sturdy and well made. I will now be purchase a second one of this Safety 1st gate to use instead.
