Q: Approximately how many ounces would be required to completely refinish a bolt action rifle with a 22 inch barrel?

4 oz would be enough for a full rifle. One thing, Durablue Nitre is usually used for small accent parts and then normal DuraBlue is used for the rest of the rifle. DuraBlue comes in the colors blue, black and blue/black and then either polished or matte finish. That said, we have had customera do full rifles in the Durablue Nitre. Just want to make sure you get the look you want.

Q: How much will 4oz do?

Not an exact answer, because it truly depends on the number of layers (coats), thickness of the spray, and the size of the firearm. Typically, the manufacturer of DuraCoat says that 4 oz will finish 2-4 firearms. That would be 4 handguns and 2 rifles - again depending on the thickness and number of layers.DuraBlue Nitre is a traditional finish replicator for the older Nitre finish. This is historically used on the smaller parts of hand guns and long guns and not on the entire gun - but certainly can be. For entire guns, where you want a traditional bluing appearance with much lower maintenance , we recommend the DuraCoat DuraBlue product. Then the DuraBlue Nitre on the small visible parts.Hope that answers your question
