The Message

OLD SCHOOL - not your typical rap album, but "The Message" is the best and most memorable song on this wax. Must listen to, and possible purchase!!! I own "the wax" and the digital of this masterpiece.

This album came out in July 1, 1982 and is better than most albums today!

This CD brought back a lot of fond memories from my youth. This group stands out as a class act in delivering a message that is still relavant in today's world of confusion, graft and greed by the powers that be.

As stated above, this is a classic song that we used to listen to back in the day. It gives a strong message. Sometimes it does seem like a jungle when you run into difficult situations in life.

I love this album. It is so innocent, so pure. The roots of hip hop. It has a happiness and also a pathos that is very interesting. A total classic.

Grandmaster Flash is one of the founding fathers of rap but this record is not representative of what you would call "old school" hip hop. The title track, is one of the all-time great classic early rap songs. For that one song, my rating bumps up to 2 out of 5 but the rest of the album has some really unexpected soul ballad Stevie Wonder wannabe stuff mixed in and it throws it completely off. About half of the rest of the songs are decent hip-hop/rap but the other half I could really do without. Maybe go with a different compilation album that has "The Message" on it rather than this one.
